Growing inside update

The inside experiment continues to be a success! Leaves aren't yellow, its just the HPS light on them.

Two new babies (Heavenly Blue) are ready to progress alongside the older plants that I started in August.

I'm so jealous.

My baby is still going but I wonder how. I took it outside each and every day as you suggested and it is continuing to grow taller. The spacing between each leaf is about 4" and the leaves are tiny tiny tiny. The first leaves did die so here we are. I'm letting it be for now, but feel it is struggling so much that maybe putting it into the compost heap would be kinder.

Maybe just a lighting problem, Jude? Don't give up!!!

I'll only give up when there's nothing left of this baby. Meanwhile, I planted another MG seed (great, now I fotgot which one) and the seed leaves are HUGE, the stem looks more like a stalk and the first two real leaves are beginnning to break out close to the seed leaves.

I'm excited for this one yet still feeling like I did something to stunt the first. They're in seperate pots, side by side both inside and out. I'm guessing that the indoor lighting was insufficient in the beginning for the first one, therefore the differences.

Be sure to share the new seedlings progress with us! Cameo Elegance seedling just got it's first real leaf. It is tiny, but to be expected since this is a miniature variety.

Its supposed to look like the attached Davesgarden image, so I hope the leaves start showing up varigated later!

Yesterday, I started an unidentified JMG seed I got as a bonus from Komeri on ebay to grow indoors. It should be interesting to see what the mystery seed will turn out to be. The seed was huge!

ok, can't stand this much longer, I have to start some mgs myself, indoors of course. This Texas weather is wonderful, lots of sunshine and blue skies, but we still have the occasional freeze. Joseph, are you using a special light for your mgs?

Louanne

Louanne,

I plan to grow the vine on a medium sized circular trellis, and only use natural sunlight that comes through a west facing window in our sunroom. I had good luck with Blue Silk and Akatsuki no Umi in this location. Good luck with yours!

Thanks Joseph.... I'm going to get mine started this weekend.

This seed is jumping with life, it has a nice 1//4" root after only 1 day!

I started some of my Fujishibori inside, seeds from the year before last, and all three have sprouted. I'm hoping by growing this one indoors I'll have better luck with it than with outside during the summer. It didn't like the heat at all--lots of deformed flowers and only two seeds set from the seven vines. I have it in a big pot up at the shop in front of the windows. Will that be enough light for it, provide I turn it often? I've never grown any indoors.

Hi Stacey,

It ought to be enough light. Which direction do the windows face?

We're kind of kitty-wonkered here, so we don't face exactly east-west north-south...I think I'm facing more southwards because the sun comes in the windows all day, and I lose actual sunlight towards the afternoon. The front flowerbeds get sun nearly all day long, and only get shade from the roof in the late afternoon.

You should have plenty of sun! Have fun!
