What kind of moth is this please?
CLOSED: biggest I ever saw
Looks like some sort of Sphinx Moth...but there are quite a few varieties, and the markings can differ by just a little.
Are they all 2" ? I don't remember seeing any this large and this one startled me as I walked out this morning to check on things.
I've seen White Lined Sphinx moths nearly the size of my hand when their wings are outstretched. Tomato Hornworm Sphinx's are pretty big too. They are both a similar gray pattern like your picture. Can't tell much more because the abdomen spots help identify them. Catalpa Sphinx's are gray too, but they hold their wings at a different angle.
