A little snooterface Snout Butterfly

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Was just out in back checking on all the host plants, and a lively little Snout joined me. At first he couldn't make up his mind which flower he liked best..

Or was it the Salvia?

Then he tried to duck away into the Maple tree nearby...

But he kept going back to the Cosmos:-)

Too cute! Are the photos taken with your new camera? What's the zoom on it?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Becky with the new!!
It has 12x zoom and 6.0 mega pixels.. So far I am loving it a lot!
It even weighs about 1/2 lb less that the S1.

:-)

I posted an ole joke here my friend retired JP of Southlake Grapevine tells a lot.. I finally typed it all out in print.

wow...debnes...the clarity on those photos is beautiful! They put my little Sony 5.1 mega pixel to shame..lol I'd love to invest in something that has that nice quality to it.
Thanks for sharing... :)

Thanks Melanie & Becky!
I was taking the pictures and noticed the difference right away...a lot clearer, and pretty keen auto-focus. The pics are huge too..Like 2816x2112..

Here was another visitor that there at the same time as that cute lil snooterface..

Thank you Donna,
Actually I haven't either until today, and I saw 2. This one and another one less fortunate was stuck to the walk out front with one wing folded in the middle of it. Strange..Have no clue what hapened to it.

They allegedly overwinter as adults..maybe just eclosing from some hackberry brush nearby. I will be keeping a lookout for more now. I think their long snout is like their probascis, because it it is used to siphon nectar...Interresting lil things.

Here is a close up of that snout>

I've never seen one either..don't have to guess how it got that name.

The Snouts must be moving somewhere because I started seeing them last weekend. I'd never seen one, that I knew of, before either. They are small and very fast fliers. You could mistake them for moths if you didn't know what you were looking at.

Their coloring underneath is very grayish.

Yeah real fast fliers!
That's a great picture paige. You captured his substantial profile. hehe

The info says they are migrators too.

Here was one of the sources I read on that.
