Fatsia japonica

Columbia, SC

The seeds are inside black drupes as I discovered by slicing into a drupe. In order to save the seeds and to possibly trade them, I suspect I should first remove the seeds from the drupes, but I wanted to be sure this is correct. If so, does anyone know how I should remove the seeds?

Thanks for any help ya'll can give me!

Eh? I thought they were supposed to be sterile.

Maybe you can find information under Fatsia or Hedera, the two genuses that produced it. This has me intrigued, so I'll check it out later if you don't find anything yourself. I'll be away from the Internet for a couple of days.

As a follow-up, thought I'd mention that I'm getting ready to winter sow my Fatsia japonica seeds. (I removed the fleshy coating of the drupe and dried the small brown oval seeds before storing the seeds. They've been spending the past year in the garage refrigerator).

Sure hope the seeds aren't sterile. Little baby Fatsias spring up around the momma plant so I'm keeping my fingers crossed... The hybrid between Fatsia and Hedera, Fatshedera, would I assume indeed be sterile.
