Zip +4 Match Up

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi,

Have everyone matched up. Here is what you need to do.

1. D-mail each other and trade addresses. You can get the +4 here: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp

2. Prepare 2 envelopes (small bubble ok) with seeds inside each. 1 with just the regular zip and the other with zip +4. The envelopes cannot have less or more than 52 cents postage on it.

3. Check in, in this thread when your envelopes are ready. That way we can nag any slowpokes. I will bold the names of those who are ready.

4. Once everyone is ready, we will all mail them on Monday December 4th.

5. When your envelopes arrive from your partners, make note of the dates and post it here.

Here are the match-ups.

The only thing I have a question about is the amount of the postage...does that make a difference? I normally take mine and have them weigh them, so they tell me the correct amount, but I was curious about that anyway...if I need exactly fifty two cents postage to make this work...no problem! ALSO, do we mail these from our mailboxes or just from the Post Office....you may have already explained this, if so, I apologize..
JanetS

I have sent my dmail to LeBug, and have my labels ready...just waiting on a wish list of seeds...or is that supposed to be a surprise...I better start at the beginning and reread this...lol

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi,
I am very new to this and I know this is ended already but could you give me a little more help on how this is done? Like what is a +4? also how many of what types of seeds in each pack? I dont mean to sound stupid but if you dont ask you dont know :-) Thanks for any help.
Susan,Va

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Well, Susan, we all have a five digint zip code..mine is 30517..the post office gave us an additional four to add on....so mine is 30517-1872...so the last four numbers are the +4 we are talking about....we are just trying to discern whether adding those last four will help speed things along or not. The seeds we are sending are just a surprise, something to send in our "test" envelopes. I hope that all makes sense.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Sorry Susan, the sign up is closed. Can't take on anymore. There are always swaps and stuff going on .. just keep checking the seed forum.

Janet, bulky small white envelopes with seeds and small bubble envelopes (4.75 x 7) are always 52 cents postage. As to the mailbox or post office, preferably the post office but if thats not possible your mailbox will do.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

whoa maybe not. Does it matter what size envelope?
Mine is a 6 x 81/2 ???

Still not sure why it has to be .52 cents?
It doesnt matter either way but just curious about that.

Sorry I missed this. Alaska could have been a good test. Haven't been in the Garden for the last few days.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Weezingreens, maybe we can add you...I will be happy to send to two people to get Alaska in on this...what about it X?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Weezingreens, Susan51 wanted to be in, so I'll pair you up with her if she still wants to be part of the experiment. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from her. There is still plenty of time to get things together.

GuardianGirl, that will be fine. I wanted everyone envelope and postage to be as alike as possible to make the test fair. I don't know if size or postage has an effect on delivery or not.

I'm basically ready. All I have to do is address the envelopes.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, now I am confused. Am I in or am I out? I've been busy elsewhere lately, so I haven't been checking DG everyday. Let me know if we are sending, and like Susan, I am confused. If you want me to send seeds, you'd better give me instructions or I'll goof it up.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Weezingreens I'm so glad you checked your d-mail! Susan will be sooo happy. You are paired with her. Email her for her address or check in the addy. The instructions are at the top of this thread! Once you have your envelopes ready, check in and I'll bold your name .. The great mail off is schedule for december 4th a week from tomorrow!

So how many seeds do we add to this envelopes? Sorry but this is all new to me... I can be ready fast so long as I get it correct... I do understand the zip part now... :-) See I am learning... Oh do we send Priority mail?
Hugs,
Susan

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

The amount of seeds is largely determined on how many you have to share. I usually put 10 - 15 seeds in a pack if I have a moderate amount of seeds. More if I have bunches and less if I don't. You will want to put the seeds in a separate pack/envelope than the main envelope. some people make their packs out of paper or use small plastic zip packs. I use small coin envelopes.

Here is a link on daves where you can find seed packet templates:

http://davesgarden.com/files/seedpackets/

When you make/get your seed pack, make sure your screen name is on the pack somewhere and the name of the seed of course.

As far as what kind of seed to send, I always make it a point to check my partners threads and trade haves and want lists to determine what they might want. If you are very new to gardening, then you could go out and buy some seeds.
