poppy forum???

You are evil to send me to a place like that! But I guess you won't get in trouble since I hit their Thanksgiving Sale already! I spent a LOT of money.

Once again, the pictures don't show foliage enough, so I will sow seed myself next year and give you a report.

Hi!

I'm the poor soul who suggested a poppy forum (see the link on the first post). As a relatively new greenie, I had no idea that poppies would be under cottage gardening ... but, seeing that I know now, I am adding this to my favorite forums.

I'm a failure at my first year of poppies, because (I think) the bunnies love the "lettuce" phase of the plant - especially when you try fall sowing for a two-phase growing season. A mended fence and a winter sow is my approach this year. Apparently they only eat the lettuce phase, as I the bunnies still have thier speed, and pupils are normal and not pinpoint :)

Anyway, I have seeds of 12 species that I am going to sow in Feb around the yard in small areas. I will be able to post pictures sometime in mid spring - and am looking forward to getting a success this year.

W J, we are so glad you brought up the subject of poppies. You can see that many of us are interested in them and I think this is a great forum for them. I think the nice thing about the cottage garden forum is that it can lend itself to talk about annuals, perennials, vegetables, roses, shrubs and trees, hardscaping, fencing, lifestock, ect. You name it and they all seem to fit here. I have had such fun looking at poppy photos the last few names since you brought them up. So many beautiful types.

What is Annie's Annuals? It always looks to me as if they are selling plants, not seeds, but when I see them referenced (like your link) the conversation seems to have been about seeds.

Thanks, Jude, but I don't know if that is really the same. The peony poppies are like a round puff ball. The shredded are more cupped and frizzly...

Annies is a great nursery with great stuff, but shipping can be kinda high, since they only ship 2nd day air...

That is really pretty! I had some of those pop up in a mix I grew last year. I sure liked how bright they were.

Most of my others were just the pale colored peony types

Good Lord, Seedpick'r,

Looks like you glued peonies to poppy stems! How on earth does that thin stem hold those huge flowers? What happens to them when the rain comes down and the wind blows? In fact, what happens to single poppies when the rainand wind come?

Seedpicker_TX those pink poppies are pretty! I like the pink color.
Those pink poppies look like the huge pink bombast peony poppies.

Suzy-Lol...they bloomed in primarily dry weather, so storms or rain wasn't really a factor. They bloomed over a period of a month, or two, so it must have rained sometime in there, but didn't seem to hurt them...

I copied his hyperlink to it, but do not know if it will work, haven't tried it before. You can find it in the menu if that doesn't work.
