Well I can say that 2 cars with full coverage are cheaper for me in Harris County than apparently they are in San Antonio. And I have an 18 yr old driver on one of them. So maybe you can save a bit on the auto. =)
Moving to Houston....(Hoa's?)
dmj,
whew! that's awesome to know! thanks! our insurance is much higher due to the fact that people in SA won't or don't carry insurance. they actually passed a law last year that if you get pulled over uninsured they impound your car and leave you standing on the side of the road. so i pay because others don't pay. hopefully that will improve. i use state farms to, maybe that makes a difference.

I live just W of the Woodlands in an older subdivision with 5+ acres each. It's country-like, but next to the Woodlands amenities and without the high maintenance fees. Still many lots to buy and build, houses on the market too. HOAs are good, they serve to keep the people who don't want to follow the rules and might want to start a business or such. HOAs do, however, need to be kept an eye on.............we're having major re-organizing of ours now.
I find State Farm expensive...if you want I can give you my Insurance agent and he'll beat anyone on your Automobile and home insurance...Jeanne
Jeanne,
Yes please dmail it to me! I heard Farmers Insurance is cheaper as well.....
Went to Houston today but had lots of businss work to do as well and with kiddo we really got a late start. Only had time to check 1 neighborhood: Copperfield. LIKE what I saw. Having open house on our place next Saturday from noon-5 (wow!) so heading to Houston for the whole day to see more than we could today.
Houston has soft water don't they?
I think it depends on where you get your water. Some of it tastes good but some is horrible because they have to put so many chemicals in it. As far as being soft, I have NEVER had soft water in Houston. it is always on the neutral side. I'm glad of that. I personally hate soft water - too hard to get the soap off and out.
Ann
It's pretty hard in my opinion.
Well it's hard here since we have all the limestone, etc. I lived in Bryan/CS and it was soft water there so didn't know about Houston.
The water in Bryan/College Station is very soft. We lived in the Woodlands years ago and it is not anywhere near as soft. I wasn't into gardening then, but only going by how hard it was to get the soap feel off of me when I showered at my Mother-in-law's house when we visited her in Bryan.Amazing how different water/soil/rain/temperatures are just 100 miles apart.
I know it, we get like 1/2 the rainfall of that area and yet have the same zone! I loved the soft water better and don't remember having any issue with it.
Has anyone heard of either of these 2 Houston neighborhoods: Oak Creek Village or Fountainhead?
One is zip code 77066 and the other is 77068.
Oak Creek Village yes; I think its over by Jones road.
dmj,
is it a bad area/good?
My bank (Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union) has 2 offices. One is over there. Also the CYFAIR ISD offices are over there--I used to work in this district for four years. It used to be good 8 years ago--that area has really grown too; its near 1960 (which is hwy 6 when it turns east) and Jones Rd and Eldridge Rd area. My doctor is near Eldridge and 1960--that area is good. You really need to come over and look. You would be looking at a 290 commute and not a hwy I10 commute--which I would not suggest. I10 outside the beltway has all been widened and is a lot faster commute than it used to be. I go from hwy 6 to beltway (actually Gessner--one exit in) and I can pull that stretch in less than 30 minutes on ANY day in the morning--afternoons somes longer--depends on the time. I can tell you some real shortcut back roads to get from Copperfield to hwy 6 by the farm and ranch club--avoiding all but the Park 10 and Farm and Ranch Club light on hwy 6. And that stretch is FAST coming home and in the morning. The area around CYFAIR ISD is 77065. I can't even find the zip codes you are talking about on the map.......
edited to add--here is a Houston zip code map:
