Greetings, fellow mini-coopers! Seeds arrived today and they are all packed, ready for the 2nd leg of their journey. Ursula was kind to send us a bonus, geranium pyrenaicum "Bill Wallis", which I divided equally among us. Ursula says they will thrive in any climate.
caution, the seeds wrapped in foil are very tiny, so pls open carefully. Enjoy and look forward to seeing your pics of germinated seeds.

Ack, Vossner, Looks like my idea of sending $7.00 cash didn't work -- can we wait just one or two more days in case it got held up in Thanksgiving traffic? I am sure it will show up there, but if it doesn't I'll resend -- maybe a check this time.

I am sooooo excited! My rhodophiala bagnoldi is germinating. I'm not much of a seed sower, so this makes it double thrilling.

My rhodophiala bagnoldi are about 4 inches tall. but I have not gotten the rodophiala rhodolirion to germinate. It needs stratifying and I have done that ,but I really don't know what I am doing.
that's why I posted here, to inspire you. Heck, it has inspired me to sow some of the seeds I bought last year!

I haven't had time to do anything!! With Christmas and the holidays it has been wild!! So hopefully I will get some sowing done in the next couple of weeks...it was 70 degrees here this weekend...lol...I think WINTER is supposed to be here right?
here is a pic of the rhodophiala bagnoldi seedlings. I'm gonna add to PF also. I am so scared of losing them, wonder if it's time to transplant. They have been outdoors the entire time and have not been bothered by anything. So far, tough little plants.
Nery that's great I think I have 1 left. They were doing great inside. I put them in the greenhouse after Christmas. We had a horrible storm and it mangled the greenhouse so all my delicate plants took a beating in those high winds. I don't think I am going to fool with them any more. It was fun though to get them up and going.
People I trust and respect have recommended not moving them for 12-18 months. I hope they make it that long. Sorry you lost yours, Riverland
Riverland, don't give up. R. bagnoldi is much tougher than you think. The bulbs/seeds survive dormant in the Atacama Desert as much as 20 years if there is no rain. The days in the desert are very hot and the nights very cold (sometime rocks explode due to the temp. differences). When conditions are adverse, they go dormant.
Don't be tempted to dig them out in order not to damage the bulbils - wait until they are one year old. Water them sparingly.
A. exserens is a high Andean species (equivalent to a zone 6b). They have a dormant period as well. Here applies the same as with the Rhodophiala bulbils: don't be tempted to transplant the brittle rhyzomes/fleshy roots before they are one year old. In the Andes mountains they emerge in late Spring/early Summer and bloom on the second half of Summer. However, you will probably have to wait two (maybe 3) years to see them bloom. Next year, plant them in your garden where the rhyzomes will not be disturbed.
I am sure you are doing far better with your seedlings than you believe!

Ursula, Thank you so much for that info. I will take care of the pot to see if they will make it back I have several rodophia rhodolirion still hanging in there. My alstromeria are germinating now after being in the fridge for a while.
