CLOSED: Anyone Up for Testing Zip +4?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I always add the +4 to zip codes. I don't know if it really makes a difference. So lets test it! We'll each send our partners 2 envelopes with surprise seeds. 1 envelope will have just zip and the other zip +4. We'll wait until everyone is ready then put them all in the mail on the same day and compare notes as to when they arrive!

We still need a few more from new england, gulf states, middle atlantic, alaska & hawaii! The more the merrier!

Does Canada have zip +4?

from the gulf states
sunnydove - Texas
Gourdlady2006 - Mississippi

from mid-west
LeBug - Indiana
beaker_ch Minnesota
9kittymom - Oklahoma
makshi - Indiana
snboyken - Kentucky

from new england
Chicory31 - Connecticut
maineroses - Maine

from middle atlantic states
luvsgrtdanes - Pennsylvania
claypa - Pennsylvania

from the south eastern states
Xeramtheum - South Carolina
JanetS - Georgia
frausnow - Georgia
GuardanGirl - Florida

from west coast
azrobin - Arizona
bsavage - Arizona
daisyruffles - Oregon
portagee25 - California

from alaska

from hawaii
Braveheartsmom - Hawaii

Once I get volunteers I'll pair you up.

Any takers?

LOL X! I think that's a great idea - I'd try it for the testing aspect but I'm in the middle of a move. Let me know if you do it again though (and post the scientific results for those of us curious minded about it).

Good luck and have fun :)

This sounds like fun, I'll do it, I've been wondering about this for a long time too! And the seeds, that's just a bonus!

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I'm game. So all I would need to do is send two envelopes to the same person on the same day, one packet of seeds per package?

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

Do I qualify for west or more specific southwest?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

After thinking about it, it doesnt really have to be specifically from the list above. I just want to try and get all the corners n such. So anyone is invited to join. I added the seeds to make it interesting and worth while, so everyone will be getting 2 packs of seeds from the paired partners. I'd really like to know if zip +4 really does make a difference in the speed of which things get delivered. Considering it's getting holiday time, makes the experiment that much better with the extra mail traffic!

I'm game. From mid atlantic

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I'll do it too! Love to find out the answer myself!

Count me in (from San Antonio, Tx area). I have a SIL that use to work Postal and she told me long ago that it made a difference going through the zip readers, but I've wondered and am curious to see the results. It seems the more postage we pay, the slower the USPS gets in moving it anyhow.

I would like to play, I think. Add me to the middle of the US, LOL

X, I'd be happy to do it, but I'm not sure you want/need another midwesterner. Some people know I am a huge proponent of the zip +4 and it's because I have personally noticed a difference in my mail.

I went to a party weekend before last and one of the guests was a manager from our downtown post office. She was in charge of all the bubble mailers!!!! LOL! We had a nice little chat -- if you call me firing questions at you a nice little chat. LOL!

Here were the three things that determine how fast our mail gets there:

1. Legible handwriting. Don't use a pen or ink that bleeds when it gets wet. Printing preferred over cursive, with no punctuation either way, but their computer software can read all but the messiest handwring. If your envelope gets bumped to the stack where they have to manually read it, it will automatically be penalized 1 day, possibly 2.

2. Zip Code. She said it was more important than the town or state. She acted like it was more important than anything, even the stamp!

3. Zip +4. She said if you have this, you don't really need an address at all, but then backtracked when it looked like I was going to start addressing all my mail with just a name and a zip +4. (You still need a name because there can be multiple people at the same house.)

One more thing I noticed on my own -- I get better service by a day or two LOT OF TIMES by using the delivery confirmation. So, if you're ever running a day late for a swap, it might be worht the extra 60c to shave off day.

FWIW, Somebody in chat said that if you use a zip +4 on your listing in the DG address files that no one from your town can find you because the DG software searches the "wrong way", and that's why they didn't want to add the zip +4 to their DG address.

X, I have several Yellow Hibiscus seed pods I can send. Does it have to be seed "packets" like in the store?

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

I'll join, though if AZ is west coast, what would that make me? Hawaii? :)

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hehehe. NW I'd asume. He'll have to add one. I lived in Lynwood for 2 yrs.

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

az, good that makes more sense! :)

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

I can play, too... if you need one more from Arizona. (Thanks azrobin!). Let me know!

Brenda

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

To make it a fair test, the envelopes we send should be essentially the same. I use small plain white envelopes with 52 cents on them. I wrap the seed packets in bubble wrap.

Really need some volunteers from New England, and more from mid atlantic states and gulf states and would love to test it out with hawaii and alaska.

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

Whoo-hoo Brenda! Good to see you here!

Bubble wrap - check! Seeds - check!

Get going ladies! Know enyone in these states to invitite?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

I'm all for research in the advancement of better postal service... I'll read the thread to check the details, count me in !

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I invited some peeps tonight, so maybe we will have more States represented tomorrow..lol Everyone think of someone on your trade list from a State we need...and INVITE them....this can be so much fun! Our little seed packets will be RACING across the US...of course X the more we get the more work for you...sorry...didn't think of that..

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

X I always use brown bubble envies with .52 postage OK?

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Whatever we use we need to all use the same....right. So just let us know what will work and we can all get it together for the BIG MAIL OFF!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

This is getting exciting! .. Actually it really won't be much work at all .. all I have to do is pair people. As long as the envelopes don't require more than 52 cents, anything goes. I'll give this til Friday to see if we can get more takers from new england, california, hawaii, alaska and another from the gulf states. I'll pair everyone up on Saturday and if everyone is ready then we'll have the great mail off on Monday. Florida to Alaska would be awesome like Maine to Hawaii.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)
