I just bought a beautiful Ramona Clematis at WalMart last week and planted it by my birdfeeder so it would climb the feeder pole.I have watered it everyday and it had two flowers on it.Last night before going to bed I took one more look out the back window to see my white Daturas in bloom and there was this huge black bear with his nose stuck in my birdfeeder licking the seed out of it.All 300 or more pounds of him was standing on my new Clemates plant. He made me so mad I ran out on the back deck yelling and screaming at him. He ran a few yards and stood there looking at me like I was some kind of nut.I went in and got a pan and a metal spoon and went back out banging it for all I was worth. That made him go off into the woods but it was too late for the Clemates which he had trampled into the ground.I don't have any really close neighbors but I'm sure I must have woke up anyone that was within a 1 mile radious.Oh the joys of living in the woods with the wildlife.
Bye Bye Clemates
ROFLOL! I bet he is back in the woods telling all his buddies about the lady that plays her pots too loud!
Don't give up on it, more than likely it will come back. It will take PATIENCE though.
I have seedlings coming up that i have planted..after i fill the requests that i have already taken, i will send you one if i have am extra
sandy
*** YIKES ***
Thanks Sandy. I'm trying to nurse it back again but it was broken off at the roots and I had planted it in freshly tilled dirt so when he stood on it he crushed the roots too.I gave it some Miracle Grow and I keep watering it.I think I need a bear skin rug in front of my woodstove. LOL
Where do you find the seeds on the clematis vine? Are they the spent flowers that look like a bunch of hair?
Yes, Cline, but they don't usually grow from seeds, apparently. Taking cuttings and rooting them is the best way to propagate them.
