One Billion Trees

It is an extremely nice thought. I guess it takes up right back to the start of this thread, the relationship between women, community and trees. Nice thought

I collected a gallon bag of acorns to send out and our DS thought it was garbage and tossed it. I will be collecting more this fall when they drop and get them out to those who have contacted me for some.

Oh, Ponditis - what a shame all that work for you . . . down the drain!!! At least your DS thought he was doing a good thing!!!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Ohhhhhhhhhh - but bless Son for thinking garbage - I am sure that is unique!

I thought you'd all get a kick out of this photo. I was 'grooming' the gardens yesterday and happened upon this scene. I swear that I did not plant this little tree, which appears to be a baby cedar tree, and I did not place the gnome there. I have this little stone house out in the garden all year and this little plastic gnome has been right by the door for a couple of years now. He's so small no one notices him but I know he is there. It was such a surprise to happen upon this little tree growing right by him! Perhaps he planted it?

Murmur, this tree cannot stay in this place for too long. When it gets too big for this place, would you like it for your forest? It's likely there will be more little cedars here and there since my yard is surrounded by the giant things.

Yes, please!!

And what a darling scene!!!

I'll "put your name on it"! Yes, isn't it cute??

Just proves, they move when we aren't looking. I just knew they did! As do my glasses, the carkeys, and my workdiary (although that only moves when it wants to humiliate me).

What I really hate is when my glasses park themselves on top of my head - just to confuse me even further!

Wonderful capture of a little miracle, both the tree and gnome guarding it!

I knew they planted seeds when I wasn't looking.

Yes it was unique for my son to throw something in the garbage but I had told him that he couldn't bring his friend over for the weekend until the patio was clean enough for company. LOL Guess it was my own fault that those acorns were gone. I am just very glad he didn't decide to feed them out to the squirrels. Now that wouldn't have set well with me!!!!!

That is such a darling little scene. I knew the PNW forests are enchanting. I knew it!!!!!!!!!!

:) This little gnome must have been quietly tending his tree for a season without my knowlege. Sometimes they do have minds of their own! I imagine I'll have to give him another tree to tend when I dig the tree for Murmur.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Oh, my goodness yes - I wouldn't want him angry with me!!!!!

LOL!! Not to worry. He's a reasonable sort.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Whew! I wouldn't want him messing with my mind or anything, you know.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

I'm laughing again. And I have to go work.

LOL!!

See that gnome is positive proof that the forests in the PNW are enchanted and enchanting too. ;o)

I planted four blue spruce today (Picea pungens.) and we planted ten Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum) in various places around our yard as understory trees. Tomorrow we have nine little River Birch (Betula nigra) to plant around our pond. Last month we planted twenty Austrees on various places on our property so they will give us almost instant shade due to their fast growth and give our longer lived trees time to catch up with them for shade. My DH tonight indicated to me that he wants several more of the variegated boxelder ( Acer negundo 'Flamingo' ) in or near the wind break that we are planting because the color is so showy from the road and he loves to come home to those beautiful white trees. I like those too because if the seeds sprout the baby trees are pure white and don't thrive so that eliminates a lot of weeding chores.

I can't plant as many as you you guys can, But I did have to take some down that where in bad places, I have replanted trees to the areas I wanted, I'm sorry I hate alders. But I have replaced them with, 2 Red Hemlock, 1 Ponderosa Pine, and a Norfolk Island pine, almost forgot my Flowering Crab apple and Weeping Deodar Cedar over the years. This year I am planting a Weeping Willow, and a Paulownia Royal. And I have many large scrubs That I have planted.
I care very much about mother earth and Father Sky.
