Bulb sale alerts here

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yah, I like the line on that page that says they'll post their end of season sale on this page on Monday (yesterday). LOL. I don't see the actual sale yet... but maybe they'll post it after midnight rather than making us wait until 8 am. I'll just keep checking!

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

I'm sorry! I added an extra "s".

Try it now.

Here's their bulb page.

The Gurneys site had the bulb offer at the top of their home page, where it says "Special Offer" in red. Try this link.

I forget if it was mentioned, but Dutch Gardens is also having a bulb sale. I got an e-mail from them, too.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks!! I'll check 'em out.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Woohoooo! Sale prices are in effect over at VanEngelen! They didn't post details on the end-of-season sale page yet, but the prices reflect a 20% reduction. Amaryllis were not reduced, alas.

somewhere, PA

thanks critter... I thought I'd checked the prices and didn't see a difference.
And they have some amaryllis at $0 and that didn't sound right! (great yes
but not correct. LOL).
Tam

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, I tried to put those in my cart at checkout LOL and they didn't go through...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

now that' funny.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

hey, after 2 days of checking regularly to see if they'd posted that sale yet, don't you think we'd earned some "bonus" amaryllis? ;-)

I called this morning and added a couple more things that I convinced my self I "needed" since I hadn't bought the non-reduced amaryllis. LOL, I may still place an order at B&B and make up for my, uh, I don't think I can even use the word "restraint" at this point.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

For those of you who ordered in the bloomingbulb sale, I got my small order today and not only do the bulbs look great, they threw in several bags of free bulbs. Very nice!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Good to know, thanks! I think my order from them was supposed to go out today... :-)

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

OK Finally the Van Engelen Sale is on the 'net. Looks like 20% off on most things(--not Amaryllis)

Here is the "End of Season Sale" Page Reference Link for everyone:

Well, I took a look at the Van Engelen sale. With a $50 minimum order, forget it. That's $20 more than their usual minimum with most of the stock sold out.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I just got an email notification from Bulbmeister (www.bulbmeister.com). You can save at least 25% when you order from their Fall list; however, if you input the coupon code FINISHLINE at the appropriate place when you check out, you will receive an additional 20% discount off the subtotal. Not a bad deal, huh?

Marilyn

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hart, VanEngelen's site had a $50 minimum when I looked there last week, also. They were still letting me add to my order this morning, so if there's something you're especially wanting, Dmail me and LMK...

Marilyn, I really shouldn't, but now I am going to take another look at Bulbmeister. Thanks for thecoupon code!

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I must be thinking of Scheepers then. At any rate, I'm not ordering from anyplace that requires me to buy $50 of anything, especially when two-thirds of what I would buy is sold out.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I took advantage of bulbmister sale. with the extra discount (coupon code finishline) My dh saw my email from them and actually suggested I order some more bulbs...I am still on the floor! Patti

yes, that is a beautiful amaryllis.

You're all very welcome - glad to help.

I was tolk that Brent and Becky's Bulbs would start their sale after Thanksgiving. Last year if memory serves me it was 50% and included amaryllis! They make us folks in the South and West pay for faster shipping because of the potential for bulbs to freeze. They also held them and didn't ship until Monday so they wouldn't or at least shouldn't sit in a freezing cold truck over a weekend.

I, too, was bummed when I realized you had to go with the van engelen $50 minimum order instead of scheepers $35. I had a list ready to go and waiting for two days for the sales to post, only to realize I was going to have to order more than I wanted to in order to meet their minimum. Guess I'll wait for some other sales...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Other places don't have a minimum for ordering, but since the shipping charge is the same for purchases up to $50 (B&B for example charges 10% shipping east of the Mississippi or $5, whichever is more), I tend to max out what they'll put in the box... Otherwise I end up feeling like some of the money I saved on the sale just went to pay for shipping instead.

I have the opposite problem, I guess, it's hard for me to keep a bulb order *under* $50! At Bloomingbulbs' sale, I had something like $56 in bulbs in my cart but discovered that shipping jumped another $5 then, so I got my order down to $49 and change... couldn't see paying as much in extra shipping as for the extra bulbs.

Am I the only one who obsesses about not paying too many shipping charges? I'd rather spend my money on bulbs/seeds/plants!

:-)

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

I understand about having a hard time keeping a bulb order under $50 -- I should have mentioned that I have about 500 bulbs sitting in the garage waiting for planting from previous Scheepers orders!! I was just hoping for a few little end of the season extras to add in as a bonus; just can't bring myself to do another larger scale order. However, I did find just what I was looking for at the Bulbmesiter sale -- the chance to buy some things I had always wanted to try at a good price -- and the FINISHLINE coupon code practically paid for my shipping! I have really got to stay off the forums, though. DH will not believe I have purchased more bulbs.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We'll just have to hope for some nice weather so we can catch up on planting before the B&B sale... :-)

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

loveshercowdog--

You must Tell us about that lovely combination of bulbs!?!!! Any IDs?

Makes me long for Springtime!

Arlington, TX

tabasco,

You make me think here: The big tulips are Orange Bowl. Sadly, VE did not have them this year. The shorter yellow tulips are Belonna. The front daffs are Ice Follies for Critter and the back daffs I cannot remember!

cynthia

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I thought those might have been 'Ice Follies'! Thanks! I'm sure hoping they will bloom together with my unknown yellow daffs (from Breck's, simply called 'Yellow Jonquils for Naturalizing').

I have to start catching up around here, or I can't let myself indulge at the B&B sale!

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

I am officially, like, broke. No more bulbs for me.

I take karate (which many of you may know), and I found out from my sensei that Master Clark, who is the 5th dan head kahuna here in Colorado, is going to be teaching a class in a couple weeks. And it's going to be open to ALL ranks on a first come, first served basis.

Now, in the five years I've been at this school, I've never heard of him doing this. He teaches the senseis. He teaches the black belts. About the only time we lower ranks see him is on tests, when we're drenched with sweat and about to fall over and we're afraid he'll deem us not worthy, flunk us, and send us home without our belts that we've sweat blood for.

I'm sure this will be a killer class, but it's also quite an opportunity.

It's also not cheap. This isn't like it's a $20 tae bo class at the Y. So other things are going to be shifted in priority so I can afford this.

Hey, it's not like I'm going to go wanting for bulbs, after all. :-)

somewhere, PA

Oh I don't know about this... are you actually saying something has priority over bulbs WH? Hmm???
That there is a limit to how many bulbs you need & want? This truly sounds sacriligeous to me!!!!

LOL

Enjoy & let us know how it goes.

Tam

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

YES, Critter, I frequently adjust totals to just graze down to the lower shipping category, and the two words to induce me to buy something I don't want are "free shipping"! Also, if it's free shipping after $50 I'll order $51, not $66 and definitely not $49, not really paying attention to what I actually want or need. Ridiculous, no?

xxx, Carrie

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm glad I'm not alone! I did try to pay attention this year to what I "really" needed or wanted, and two impulse buys (Allium schubertii & Amaryllis 'Zombie') were out of stock after all, so that probably worked out just fine... but all my bulbs came at once today, and OMG 800 bulbs does look like an awful lot when it's in a pile, even if most of them are "little" bulbs!

VanEngelen does get credit for fast shipping, as well as lovely bulbs! The mixed oriental lilies were small (as expected at that price), but the 'Ice Follies' daff bulbs are enormous! The UPS guy pretty much staggered up to the front door with that big box, LOL.

Oh, and I have to say good words about Bloomingbulb too! They included several lovely bonus packs of bulbs, and their bulbs also looked really nice. I did call them to get advice about two damaged (soft) Crown Imperials, and although I made it quite clear that I did not expect a refund or replacement, just wanted to know if there was any way of saving them, they insisted that they would send replacements out at once. (Seriously, between the sale prices and the bonus bulbs, I wasn't at all concerned about getting 2 bad bulbs and 12 great looking ones in the bag.)

BTW, this also means that Bloomingbulbs still has red Crown Imperials in stock, and the price is just unbeatable if you want to try a few to chase away voles.

(I'll post reports in Garden Watchdog, also.)

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

critter-- hope you aren't planting all those bulbs and having Thanksgiving at your house this week! You'll have your hands full!

With 12 Crown Imperials in your garden next spring it will be fabulous! Are you planting yellow tulips underneath?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ummm.... yes, actually, my folks and my brother's family are all coming here next weekend! there's a good bit of work to do inside the house, but I'm not worrying too much about the Big Meal. People won't actually arrive until Friday because of schedule stuff, so we're celebrating on Saturday... that way, we can all spend the day hanging around and enjoying all the cooking. John & I work well in the kitchen together, so as long as I get the turkey thawed on time (going to use MaVie's brining method this time -- check out the thread in the recipe forum), we'll be fine. Having less time to prepare will force me to keep the meal a little simpler this year, which is all to the good.

Also, I don't feel a need to plant every bulb in the next week. Last year, I ordered a bunch of bulbs at B&B's post-Thanksgiving sale and managed to get them in the ground. If worse comes to worse and the ground freezes solid, I'll put them in big tubs of potting mix! I think the main thing is to get the lilies and the crown imperials planted.

I'm not really planning any plantings around the red crown imperials... from their catalog photos, I don't think they're a favorite of mine... but the two I planted last year really did keep the voles out of my front bed, so I think of them as pest control! LOL

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Gladiolus bulbs sale (Not species), but decent prices if ordered by 11/30/06 [HYPERLINK@www.bloomingbulb.com.] Price breaks as more are ordered plus free shipping (Carrie) Patti

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

oooOOOOhhhh... those magic words... "free shipping!!"

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anyone know any terrific places for paperwhites left?

Carrie

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

I finally looked at Blooming Bulbs' website. What is really tempting me are their peonies. I just spotted a couple places on the side of the house that just cry out for peonies.

They won't ship them until next spring, though. And I don't know if I should order them now, or just wait until spring and order them.

They have some beautiful peonies, though.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I need peonies.... hmmm, didn't I see a co-op forming for Bloomingbulbs? I don't know if peonies are included, however... I think dahlias couldn't be included because they can't be shipped to CA, and maybe that would apply to peonies also.

But if anybody wants a great deal on glads, go to the co-op forum! At the 100 bulb price, I think they're just 26 cents per bulb, and you'd just have to pay shipping from CA to you...

somewhere, PA

Parks has a couple days left on their 35% off sale too. I don't know how their prices compare though.
I bought lots of fertilizer - I really like algo flash for containerrs.

Tam

Arlington, TX

Brent and Becky's are now 25% off. Prices still aren't as good as VE on amaryllis; but they have a lot of different things in stock.
