Excellent idea, Tammy!

Last year, my records show that Home Depot marked their bulbs down this week. (I bought a bunch on Nov. 8.) I stopped by yesterday and asked about clearance prices, and they said "not yet." However, a friend mentioned that the Martha Stewart bulbs were being clearanced last weekend at KMart....

I want to find a bulb sale!

:-)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

why does home depot mark down where yall live? they never mark down things like that here. i am soooooooooooooo mad. what's a martha stewart bulb?

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

You enablers, you!

(I do NOT need more bulbs.)

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

LOL...I need more bulb PLANTERS!!! I have still got bulbs to plant....of course I still have time...just need to be able to get out there!!! LOL

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Janet, I would help you out with pleasure if I lived closer. I know what it is like to have a bad flare and want so badly to get in the yard. Hope yours passes quickly.

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

I hear you Janet!

I have a huge box of bulbs to put in yet, but caught a cold and just haven't felt like it....now it's raining.......

I've never planted in wet ground before....I'm hoping the rain will pass quickly.....cold is taking its time........

Robert.

Chicago, IL

I need a larger garden! LOL.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Mamajack, Martha Stewart does a line of "special" bulbs at KMart... I got some Muscari latifolium and Crocus 'Tricolor' from those bins once, but I generally don't get there at the right time for that clearance. There weren't many bulbs left at HD this year (maybe 1/4 of what they had at this time last year).

When I was over there, it looked liked they'd moved the bubs, hopefully to a "clearance" location, but I couldn't find any pricing. So I went to customer service and asked if the bulbs had been reduced in price. Once he understood that I wasn't talking about light bulbs (which "are never sale priced, ma'am"), he pondered for a minute and said, "I don't know." Then he looked at me, as if to say, "Why are you still standing here?" I said, "Well, who would know? Who could we ask?" Again he pondered, and again he said, "I don't know." And looked at me. Then he said, "Well, maybe somebody in the garden department would know." And he looked at me, because I still wasn't going away. I said, "Well, maybe you could call down to the garden department and ask, please?" And so he did. And their answer (audible over the phone from where I stood) was "not yet." But of course the answer he gave me about whether the bulbs might be clearance priced later was, "I don't know." Ha!

It's raining this morning... too wet to plant... maybe I should scout around and see who has bulbs on clearance... :-)

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

This thread is a great idea Tammy! I've been frequently checking this forum for just such news.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Cindy, what a sweet thing to say! I just can't seem to get this one booted out yet...lol It has been a few weeks now...I hate when they last so long. But God is good and I know this will pass...I just need to be more patient. Everyday I feel a little better I do something I shouldn't and am back in the bed....so I need to pace myself better. LOL This is a great thread. I try to check on my local nurseries too...when I can...they have theirs so cheaply...especially the Mom and Pop places...we have one nearby that almost gives them away. If I feel like it I will try to get up there this week and let you know what I find...if I am not too late.

Did y'all see this: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/667443/

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

ooo..I would love to have those "golden Hurricane" lilies and the white Albiflora, they are sooo pretty....I will have to put those on the MUST HAVE list for later.
They have some very pretty and unique things on that site.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, Bleek's site is great! Unfortunately, I was too late in placing my order this year, and the ones I wanted were out of stock... But I will make up for it... Next year I will place an earlier (and larger) order, LOL!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

http://www.Bloomingbulb.com has a pretty good sale for 3 days. Most stuff sold out, but still a few good deals to be had

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

neither here nor there, but I think the plant companies have gotten smarter and are posting their sales earlier before we spend our monies on holiday shopping. Not that it was going to be a problem for me--I was going to break up w/ everyone, in order to have plant money...

...then make up w/ everybody in Jan. clever plan, huh?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Park Seed Co. has a 35% off sale. I've never bought bulbs from them, just seeds and the wonderful roses, ah, those roses!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

What about Bulbmeister? They have a DG classified ad running and I've never bought better bulbs anywhere else.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

yep, I'm gonna have to break up w/ everybody....

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

I just placed an order with Bloomingbulb.com.
Thanks for the link. :-) Now I just hope they get here QUICK so that I can put them to bed before the ground freezes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I probably shouldn't have ordered them, but the prices were too good to pass up and the tulips were lovely!
LoraB.

somewhere, PA

Voss - that's a fine line you walk. Break up with everybody and the folks likely to
give you much needed gardening gifts will be tossed out with the silly toaster-givers.
LOL you nut!

Tam

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Nery, you made my morning with that "break up" line! LOLROTFLOL
Janet

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the link! I placed a $50 order with Bloomingbulb last night, which I thought was *ahem* somewhat restrained, LOL... I could not resisit the red Crown Imperials they had on their clearance page! Don't forget to click on their "Overstock" link when you're browsing! Let's hope those bulbs keep the voles away in back the way the two that Bleek sent me kept the voles out of my species tulips in the front bed this year. They were just $2.09 each, plus shipping. ($3.53 each if you buy them singly... I got 15!) And if you sign up for their enewsletter, they will give you 10% off, which helps offset the shipping charges.

I also got a handful of 'Red Riding Hood' tulips and a hundred Tricolor crocus, which everyone else seems to be sellign out of. I hope the crocus is true to the name & description rather than to the photo... I think they had a photo of another crocus, possibly 'Pickwick', because it sure didn't look like 'Tricolor'.

somewhere, PA

Oh that's very restrained critterologist! LOL

Van Engelen and Scheepers End of Season Bulb Sale starts November 13th

ooooo....

I just heard a talk on forcing bulbs today. The lecturer (Art Wolk) has won many blue ribbons
at the Phila Flower Show. It really primed me to try some forcing again this year (not for
entry in the show but for entry in my living room LOL)

Thanks T.

I've had mixed results trying to find help at Home Depot. It's kind of random. Sometimes I'll get someone who's wonderfully knowledgeable and is happy to talk to me about whatever it is I've asked about. Sometimes I get others who have no idea and obviously don't want to be bothered.

I kind of prefer Lowes, but Home Depot is closer.

Blackwood, NJ(Zone 7a)

I can't remember if it was Lowes or Home Depot, but last year the bulbs went half price the first week of December.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Here are a couple:

American Meadows (VT) - http://www.americanmeadows.com/

I also heard from someone that Brent & Becky's bulbs won't be on sale until after Thanksgiving.

Edited to remove the NC reference because of outdated info. Sorry!

That is a (great classified forum) list of bulbs from Touch of Nature

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/667443/

And the Touch of Nature Vendor Specials pricing looks good too.

I'm very tempted. Their bulbs are always very nice!

somewhere, PA

OK. I just ordered them from that last link T. Thanks! I just could not resist the temptation.
I got angelique tulip's & hyacynth to force, baret browning daf's for the spot I missed,
and some little tarda tulips for my rock garden hillside. Lets see how I do when van engelen's
sale is up tomorrow. LOL

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

Paradise Gardens is having a bulb sale (order by November 19th). So is Gurney's.

I do not need more bulbs. I do not need more bulbs. I do not need more bulbs.

somewhere, PA

Oh yeah - that's very convincing. LOL

I don't see any sale announcement yet on Van Engelen! I'll have to check out Paradise Gardens. I'm
not familiar with them. (I have a bad impressive on Gurney's though I haven't ordered from them in years).
