Just having a hard time with the lack of light .. as soon as the Winter Solstice passes I'll feel alot better. I'm enjoying everyones pictures and threads.

X, are you experiencing anything like what is known as "Seasonal Affective Disorder" (SAD) in which declining hours of sunlight are discombulating to some of us? I thought this link was informative: http://www.sunbox.com/Research/

I wonder if the technology would find a place in a greenhouse and, if so, what kinds of plants would like to share it with you? Per the above link, plants happy at 2,500 - 10,000 lux (not lumen) could keep you company. Perhaps a species of MG happy in the brighter light of the desert? Ron - would you know of any MG candidates?

(X, cactus comes to mind - try googling cactus + geometry for a wild trip in photography) (at my level of ignorance, perhaps the same trip wouldn't be as "wild" for you as moi - if you find anything fun, I hope you share)

Yes .. that's what I have. During this time I spend a lot of time in the greenhouse and sit in front of lights in the morning as well. It helps a little, but not enough to keep me from wanting to sleep all the time.

Well, that time you posted your pic of a double blue MG with picotee and asked if we could see Ducky riding the waves certainly made my day - I very selfishly look forward to your doing more of that. There will never be more Georgia O'Keeffe paintings of flowers as landscape, so there's a niche waiting for you - I thought you were that good.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks .. your reply brought a needed smile to my face.

Oh Gosh X I know what you mean!! I have a real hard time in winter, get the blues easy.. Mine is more with the cold, not so much the light, as long as it is at least sunny for a while. My hands and feet hurt so bad, seems I am never warm enough. In the summer when every one else is in the air conditioning I am right outside in the heat plugging away!!
I thought about the lights a couple of times but I think I would just know it's not "real"

Hoping and wishing for a green house someday.

Stay well, Ronnie

a round, geodesic one with skylight in dead center with light pouring down...starlight at night with Hubble-class telescope/camera for X...I think this website is so beautiful - not to mention mind-expanding -

each day, there's a different image from Hubble - check out their archives - I think they go back every day to 1995(?)

Thanks blue .. that's one of my favorite sites! When I'm not using my computer I loan it out to nasa to look for pulsars.

really? that's awesome! am I being teased?

Ronnie, I read somewhere that poor circulation in extremities could possibly presage heart issues - have you pressed your doc for explanations? Don't let 'em give you just one.

g'night, all

For real .. I run BOINC on my computer since I leave it on all the time. What boinc does is essentially crunch numbers. Half of my computers time goes to the Einstein Project (pulsars) and the other half to Rosetta which looks for proteins to cure diseases. I've been doing this for many years. It's very important since currant times do not support science in our country.

There are many BOINC projects out there, includeing SETI .. if you leave your computer on all the time, please consider joining. They need all the help you can give them!

Cool! How long have you been with them? I started way back in the late 90's before BOINC .. I was Meow. When I first started I had 3 computers running the original SETI program before BOINC came along. I did SETI for a year after BOINC came into being, but SETI's BOINC platform was unstable causing a lot of down time so I switched to Einstein and Rosetta about 3 years ago. I'm considering running SETI BOINC again when I get my new computer built.
