This beauty appeared a couple of days ago. The only white I have in that area is Sorpresa, a WM special. I have a lot of green shooting up on other varieties. Anything I should do?
what's with this?
I don't think there's anything you can do except enjoy the bonus of a second flowering for the year.
Vossner, only in Texas, zone 9, would you ever be so very lucky..... Enjoy.
Lovely! I do miss living in CA where we had 2 growing seasons, spring and fall.....summer was the dormant time. Just about everything bloomed twice a year. It was great.
ya know, that was certainly my experience last summer and this one. summer was the dormant period. I was absolutely delighted today when I noticed my giant white calla lily peeking out. I thought it had croaked from heat exhaustion. Not so, I'm so happy.
Nery, is this your first year with lilies? It should be interesting to see if they flower next summer seeing as they need a cold period for about 12 weeks. I don't know how many you have, but you might want to dig up a few bulbs and stick them in your fridge and then replant next spring. Or, to avoid disapointment next summer, order more bulbs for planting come spring.
Usually Zone 8 is is the limit, but I know I've seen a least one that is good for Zone 9; L formosanum.
oh no! I hate the thought of digging up. Yes, I have only been growing for 1 full year. (except centerfold the previous year) but I don't count those 'cause I really didn't know what I was doing.
That is why I've controlled my urge to buy too many lilies for year two. I want to see what returns for me, before I get my heart broken, like with hostas. I do have about 6 var. of hostas that do very well, but nothing like you northerners have. I do have some lily bulbs potted that have sprouted, which I can easily dig and store in cold, I might experiment with those.
You just don't know how hard is to look at all those threads about buggycrazy and not place an order, lol.
Nery, if you have someplace, like a second fridge, where you can store bulbs (isn't it time to replace your old one, LOL), I would use pots. Even those huge bulbs that Lisa sells can be put in pots, just use larger ones. When you buy lilies in the spring, all those have been in cold storage and should bloom for you.
you mean store in fridge pot and all? Hubby would say I have absolutely positively lost my mind! I guess I could hide it behind the beer, in the lowest shelf.....
Hubby needs his own separate beer fridge...
Well, I guess you could if there is enough room. I would have to take them out of the pot as I have too many bulbs in the fridge fall to spring. I overwinter any orientals i obtain late in the fridge. I could seriously use a second refrigerator. Crazy is as crazy does.
Crazy? Would it be a bad thing if...ahem... someone I know.... has 3 refrigerators?
Moby doesn't everyone ?
if not i don't know why ?
Moby, 3 fridges? You lucky lady, you. It's always a great arguement to say, "DH, well you think I am bad asking for one fridge, well I know someone who has 3! " Thanks for the tip. LOL!
I feel so darn inadequate, lol
We only have two. :) *giggle* and right now the second one contains some peony roots. :)
Moby, how did the planting go today?? With "Wanda the Wonder Gardener" there, I'd be surprised if you had anything left to transplant to the new place by yourself. She scares me with how efficient she is. :) LOL
You had a beautiful weekend for garden moving! I planted tulips here and at my mother-in-laws house.
Diann
It was an awesome weekend and the best part was this band of shovel-wielding garden warriors. Here we have ~
Sue (llilyfan)
Lori (McGlory)
Susan (Lincolnitess)
Wanda (Wandasflowers)
Me (Moby)
Maribah (hydrangea80)
I'll start a thread tomorrow because I'm too pooped. Just got up from a 5 hour nap and I'm going back for more....
That is a plant moving crew !
Plants probably jumped in pots
to avoid the shoveling Divas.
cant wait to hear the antics
of Daves Plant Rescue Team 101
Did Moby move?
Moby is moving! What a beautiful weekend you all had to do this work. Friends and family, you can't beat that.
I hope she retained rights to go back to dig up anything she may have missed!
Pirl, here's a thread about Moby's new digs (hope you don't mind , Moby)

what a nice group of ladies, Moby I love your new crib. (yes, I'm trying to sound "hip")
