My Visit to Harpers!
If you haven't had enough...let's walk through the water garden area.
An area just before entering the water gardens - even the concrete edging was unique for building a border or raised bed. The mirror in the background is one our friends are going back to pick up when they figure out where they're going to put it on their house next to their patio.
I'll end the tour with a picture of the Heron I want. These are out of stock, but maybe by the time we head back for fieldstone for our patio they might have one ready.
Hope you enjoyed. Got a little carried away with all the photos, but I really wanted to encourage you to visit. Even if you're not in the market for garden art, it's alot of fun to look around and the gift shop has some really unique items as well. You can spend $5 or $500, but I guarantee you won't come away empty handed! For anyone traveling up or down I-81 it's a quick 5 min from 81 in Harrisonburg. Just remember, there's no such thing as a quick visit - there's too much to see!!!
Posting another link in case anyone missed it on the other thread http://www.harperslawnornaments.com/index.php
Debbie
Thanks so much for posting this...I have to go ...where is this place?
levilyla - it's easy to find, about an hour south of Winchester, VA on I-81, about 2.5 hrs from Baltimore. Directions are on their website (link above).
Chris, I'm sure you could find a companion for your gnome.
Forgot to mention the incredible selection of pond supplies they have. There's even a small building attached to the gift shop you can walk into the "dark" and see the lighted floating decorations for ponds - pond lilies and a nice lily pad with dragonfly I want!
Glad you enjoyed :)

Debbie, I have that lantern and do you know you can put a tealight inside it? It looks very nice at night, especially reflecting in the pond.
Great pictures and a wonderful tour of Harpers you've provided here.
hart, thanks for the suggestion of the tealight in the lantern. I thought maybe with the hole in the bottom, I could rig up a small light bulb for lighting, maybe with a timer on it so it would automatically come on at dusk!
I wanna go, I wanna go, I wanna go, ;}
Debbie,
What a wonderful tour. You did a great job of capturing everything. Those lions on the front just sucked me in. I loved Nessie. He should be living in my pasture now that the horses are gone. I’ve been looking at the 3 piece crocodiles for the yard. I think my grandson would love one. I almost bought one in at the Williamsburg Pottery last year but I had so much stuff I put it back and have been sorry ever since. My friend has your cat and it looks wonderful sitting on the edge of her pond looking in at the fish. I love some of the wall hangings like the sun faces and I see they have tree faces, too. Look out next spring. Holly
LOL, Holly - You HAVE to go!
I sent a link to this thread to Dale Harper, one of the owners we talked with last weekend and he responded with:
Debbie
I was really impressed by your website and the great job with the "Harpers" tour. I didn't expect to see such a variety of pictures! Thanks so much for your business and for sharing with others. Maybe garden clubs in your area ( or outside the area) would like to visit us for a field trip. We have done that in the past. We could give everyone a tour, and explain how things are cast, finished, etc. We could also share about the history of the business which , started in the basement of my parent's house, which is adjacent to the business. The heron that you were looking at appears to be resin. I will try to find out the status and let you know! Thanks again for all of your effort in sharing about our business!
Dale Harper
So, if anyone's willing to get a group together, you could have your own personal tour :)
Wonderful rcn. The tour that you gave was splendid. You have pics of things that I have missed seeing the few times that I have visited there. Yeah, I am drooling over the many lovelies. Holly said that she liked the wall hangings. I do too Holly. On my last visit I bought a colored pineapple that they had hanging close to the entrance to gift shop. It was finally hung about a week ago. It is located to the left of my front entrance and looks great.
Rcn, you took pics of elephants and made reference to me. Yep, those are the poses that I have, but mine is the smaller of the two. I love it but haven't found a permanent home for it yet. Still thinking on it.
As for getting a group together. Sounds good to me. I cannot volunteer to be in charge of the group, but I am very willing to participate. I NEED another trip to Harpers and I would also LOVE to meet some of you great folks. I can guarantee that those visiting for the first time will be impressed.
So, thank you so much for sharing your day with us rcn. I hope that if we get a group together, that you will join us again. Take good care all.
Ruby
I'd be interested in a group trip too. I couldn't make it before next Spring. If you set something up just let me know. Holly
My Goodness....this is better than a vist to Lightfoot Pottery near Williamsburg!! I've spent some money there in the past!! I hope ya'll do go for a tour....it would be so much fun. Jo
Hi roadrunner - I used to make trips to The Williamsburg Pottery years ago myself. I started going while still in high school. Are you from this area or just visiting when you visited Lightfoot? It is interesting to see someone from Arizona posting about places in Virginia. ha-ha.
I found Harpers a few years ago and really love it. There are still some things on their lot that I want to purchase at some point. Next time that I feel like treating myself, I am going to try and purchase a cement table and benches from there. By the next time that I get there, I am sure that they will have some new items.
Anyway, thanks for visiting mid-atlantic gardening.

Bumping an old thread to let everyone know Harper's 11th Annual “Everything on Sale” Open House is Aug 24-26 http://clients.ebluekey.com/files/21_calendarofevents07.pdf. Received my postcard a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait - decided I have a perfect spot for the Easter Island "guy" and hopefully he'll be on sale!
There is no additional information on the link above so thought I'd post it here from my flyer:
Fri - Aug 24 7AM-6PM Over $1000 in door prizes, Everything on sale 10-60% off
Sat - Aug 25 8AM-6PM Sale continues, Legendary auction at 1:00 with Josh Messick, Kidz zone (face painting, etc)
Sun - Aug 26 1PM-5PM Sale continues, Kidz zone
Debbie, just wonderin', did you ever get the cat you were undecided on?
LOL Bobbie, I almost forgot about him (her?) Maybe I'll take another look at it when we go to the Open House - if they'd just get rid of the dorky expression on the cat's face it would be in my car in a flash! It's the shape I really like, tall and slender - maybe I'll find a place for it yet :)
Debbie -
Thank you so much for posting about the Open House at Harpers. I am going to try and get there one of the days. There is not a thing in the world that I need, but I really enjoy going there to look. I am sure that I won't come home empty handed. ha-ha
Oh yeah, the elephant that i bought last year might need a playmate.
I hope that everyone will have a good weekend. Take care.
Ruby
