I have an ivy geranium that I like very much because it is a color that I have never seen before-dark purple (almost black). How do I save it over through the winter? I put some cuttings in water but that doesn't work. The leaves just turn yellow. I also cut the main plant back and have brought it inside. Any suggestions woud be appreciated.
Ivy Geraninums
Post to the Geraniaceae forum, you'll get the expert advice from them. Plus there are some threads already going on over-wintering hardy geraniums and pels.
I have ivy geraniums too, and I root them in potting soil just like the pelargoniums, they root just fine for me, I do have a greenhouse , I don't use bottom heat either, keeping the soil moist and let dry out between waterings. I also find that if it's very humid outside, I try not to water inside the greenhouse till It's dryer outside, plants stay wet longer in humid conditions , theydont' dry out, thus causing rot .
hope this helps
kathy
I also use regular rooting hormone bought at walmart
