Mike, I would call over to the University of Georgia and contact somebody up in thier Horticulture program that works with trees and shrubs. You could probaby hunt for somebody from the University on line too. I wouldn't wait to long to try and contact them either, or you could take a sample to one of the plant pathology labs at the University. Hope ya are able to save it.

If it is a fungus ...get rid of all the leaves and mulch around the shrub...leave the top open to freeze. daphnes seems to do well for years sometimes and then suddenly die in a month.

Thanks, starlight, and levilyla,I took a sample over to UGA,and found it to be a fungus in the ground, caused bu a rotting stump, from a water oak that had been removed 7-8 Yrs prior, and it spread to the daphne's whitch were under the tree.(bummer!!)Now,what to do !! What to do?? Could I dig them, and soak the roots in clorox mixture, trim back hard, or what?? Any ideas? I put one in a clorox mix,and killed the spores, and trimmed it back to basic, and will try to relocate, but I'm desperately wanting to save them, one was almost 4' tall. (Real bummer!!) Mike

I don't know whether I would transplant them now (it may be okay in your area) but not here. give them some Kelp Meal and mostly just keep any mulch away from their roots. Only cut out the bad stems.

Just a thought. I mix baking soda with water and spray seedlings for powdery mildew. I wonder if you mix it with water and water the plants if that'd make a difference.

Thanks for info, growin,I'm open to whatever, but now,I'm going to dig, treat, defoliate, and pot for this year,to observe, because I was told that the fungus is in the ground, and baking soda won't hurt anything, and I wonder if it isn't a base for some of the fungusides. Thanks again, Mike
