I have a river birch that I planted around April of of this year and it has been doing well. Well the other day while at a nursery I saw a beautiful multi-trunked River Birch that I would like to put in the spot where the current one is. My question is, is it too early to transplant the original river birch to another spot? Will I risk putting it in shock and/or do I need to wait till it gets colder to do this? thanks for your help.
P.S. It was a ball and burlapped tree if this matters.
Transplanting a River Birch
I would wait until it's a bit colder and the existing river birch has dropped its leaves. I think with the soil a bit cooler, the young tree will experience less shock. That's just my take on it, based on my own experience. Really water it in well when you move it; the root system is very fibrous. Others may advise otherwise.
