my neighbors definitly think I'm crazy now.

Shelton, WA(Zone 8a)

From what I heard on the news you were lucky to get over at all Soferdig!

Now, where's that dry / sun you prognosticated?

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Wednesday thru Friday. It will come. I punched a hole in the water balloon when I was up on Lookout, 4th of July and snoqualamie passes. Just wait till it all runs out on Wednesday.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Steve - Are you ensuring a dry weekend for us? It's such a lovely thought...
Silver lining: it's too warm for snow.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

No doesn't anybody read the previous posts. It is never clear on the weekend! Wed, Thurs, Friday and Monday are nice. NEVER SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY! Gosh does anybody need to have a weather report for the weekend. Jeeesh.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Steve - when I wish , I wish BIG! Besides, it sounded like you could pull it off!
And why is it not clear on weekends?
And why doesn't it rain at night?
And why does the Pineapple Express have to dump here?
None of this is necessary.
Someone needs to come up with a gigantic squeegee to use on those clouds...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Katye, why don't you get started on the squeegee thing before we all float away? LOL ;o)

Shelton, WA(Zone 8a)

Okay people, have we forgotten summer already? Just a few weeks ago I was worried our well was going to run dry and I'd have to haul laundry into town to wash! Admittedly, we seem to have trouble finding a happy medium -- I'm looking into every idea I can get my hands on for ways to STORE some of this stuff for next summer, just in case!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

My sister's well DID run dry this summer.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

We people from Montana love the rain we rarely see it there and it is a good thing. I remember when I lived in Seattle I couldn't wait to see the sun. Now when I live where it shines all the time it is pleasant but not the joy I had when it showed here.

Shelton, WA(Zone 8a)

I spent 3 years in northern Arizona, where the sun shines most of the year of course. I've never seen more beautiful sunsets, but I'll take the PNW when the sun shines over anywhere I've seen. :-)

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I actually saw the sun for a few minutes here on Whidbey today - it was absolutely lovely!!! I was kicking myself for not having my camera because it really was an unusual sight the way it was shining through a "hole" in the clouds, with rays of sunlight extending beyond the opening. Seattle had 3.78 inches yesterday (according to the paper), my friend in Olympia said they broke a record with 4.3. We only had maybe one inch here in the rain shadow. But it seemed like more!!!

Hope everyone is safe and dry.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

the "very-large-squeegee" option coupled with rain at night is a win-win situation for all.
In a contest of rain vs dry, the availability of water will always trump not enough.
I am on a well, too, so I appreciate that aspect of life.
I just wanted to keep working the gardens a bit longer.

As Laurie from Burwash Weald, UK so eloquently put it:
" work-work just gets in the way of gardening work..." and I agree emphatically!

Shelton, WA(Zone 8a)

The news tonight said that we (Shelton) topped the list for rain -- 12" from this system of storms. I think we're hydrated sufficiently for the present. Wow!

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

MzW, I knew it was close to that. My water gauge overflowed twice! I'd sure like a day or so to leave the doors open on the storage shed and workshop to dry them out. The ceiling in the workshop is wet still and I'm worried about mold. I'm going to put my large fan in there tomorrow. Still, compared to others terrible damage I'm in good shape. No pity parties here!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Holy Cow -- You guys must be floating by now!

Jburesh, I have to say that is the funniest picture I have ever seen -- your car filled with other people's leaves. Not in bags -- just on a tarp! I sent it to Mr. Clean with a note telling him that there are crazier people than I!

His reply was that I'd have to go across the country to find one. LOL!

Keep dry, run the fans, and good luck drying out, everybody!

Suzy

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

ha, ha suzy. Your Mr. Clean had a great come back! ROTFL

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Soferdig, you're right on the money with the clearing weather! I see sun and patches of blue! Glad you got safely across that miserable-sounding pass.

Galega that is a beautiful yard! I was very impressed with the autumn colors around Seattle and particularly in Issaquah this year. Is the yellowed tree a giant maple?

Outside I go, to enjoy this lovely break from liquid sunshine...

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Wish you would have shared a little more of your rain with your eastern neighbors. We got less than a half inch off of your storms. :(

Suzy, That is so funny. He sure got in his comeback there. Glad I am not married to Mr. Clean although it would be nice to be married to Mr Somewhat Clean. Mine is more like Mr. I'll drop it here and ignore it for months.

70 degrees here yesterday. What a magnificent day it was too! Gorgeous fall day with perfect temperature and perfect sunshine too. I even got time to play in the garden for a while.

Hi Poochella,
Thanks, and yes that is a giant big leaf maple, but it is one of the smaller ones in our yard. Some of the leaves are 12" across and look like a flock of birds in a good wind! When this particular one looses all the leaves, a hidden hemlock emerges underneath which is nearly as tall as the maple and grows right next to the trunk.

I am so glad Soferdig's forcast of clearing came true today! My daily dog walking wardrobe has been my tall green wellies, yellow raincoat, muddy jeans and a gigantic red white and blue golf umbrella. I think it's the unofficial Washington fall uniform...

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks sofer! I hope your forecast continues through friday, when I can enjoy the weather on my day off.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I went down to the arboretum today at lunch time. and shot a picture of my favorite new tree. Parrotia Persica

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Steve - next Autumn I will take a picture of my good friend's Parrotia. It is stunningly beautiful in the fall & just glows. Most of the leaves are off now. I've been watching hers grow into its space over the past 9 years. It improves with age as most of us do. I am remembering a post from Kenton in which he referred to them as "witchhazels on steroids", (or something to that effect...)
What are you going to plant near it?
You must have arrived safely back home - the clouds are approaching with a vengeance....
Thx for the sun! Katye

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

No I am still in Seattle. I got this picture today at the arboretum. I have seen pictures of the early color. It seems that early October is the red margins and green centers on the leaf color. They must progress to this yellow and red at the end. Wow!

(Zone 8a)

Ah yes; Renton . . .was born in the old Renton Hospital. Grew up on 20 acres between Kent and Renton, but it got too crowded over there and I bailed to the Kitsap Penninsula in 1988. Commute to the Auburn Boeing plant.

They planted pines around the building so I sweep the walkways and bring the needles home. There are hundreds of maples planted around the plant and with last weeks windstorm; all those leaves have gathered up against the chain-link fences; easy pickings.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

What a gold mine!
