Was introduced to this tree and it was a young specimum, and thought it was really pretty only to be told that it would die. Seems every one they had at the arboretum down here has died even though it was planted in different areas. They tried shady sites, dry and sunny, wet and still it has not lived. Any ideas what might be going on or what this tre e might need? Sure would like to see it live.
Gordonia lasianthus
According to this site http://www.floridata.com/ref/G/gord_las.cfm it say swampy part-shaded location.
Growin they tried that too. Down in the same area that the Taxodiums are growing and they still didn't make it. Are they normally a hard tree to try and grow do ya happen to know.
Maybe it didn't transplant well. They probably should try atleast one more time. Check the ph.
I have thought of trying it but have been skeptical if it would live. My property is so unpredictable, if it's swampy this month just wait and it may be bone dry next month. LOL
Thanks. I will pass that on to them.
Escambiaguy... It is beautiful too see. All of us on our plant walk were impressed with it and kinda said when told don't get attached to it. Maybe it is a ph thing. I hope this one lives.
I may be wrong, but aren't they somehow related to camellias?
