How long must my hydrangea paniculata be dormant before I can take cuttings.

Post to the hydrangea forum, that's where the real experts lurk. I think hyd cuttings do much better when not dormant; I don't take any past August where I live (for macrophylla, haven't tried any from my paniculata yet it was too young this year).
