The largest - Milk 'n' Honey - is just one solid white mass of root starts! And one of the Texas Pinks has roots that are an inch long. That only took four days! A few of the others don't have roots yet, but you can see where they are probably going to pop anytime now.
Large Brug cuttings available Trade or postage
none of mine have roots yet but they are healthy and in a bubbler

I've got one fatality, but all the rest are looking pretty good. ('Cypress Gardens' rotted. ) I've been changing the water every couple of days or when it starts to look a little cloudy. Several of the cuttings have lots of roots growing. How long should I let them go before potting them up?
OH..Kylee.. sorry to hear of it rotting...they were a bit green on some of them... Ilike big brown wood for best results... that'swhy the others are doing so well..
I pot mine into potting soil...as soon as I can make out the white bumps riseing on the wood... before the roots are seen.. if you have roots I'd put them into little pots now...[ this prevents the tender water roots being broken or damaged in potting..and the roots that form.. are doing so in the place where they will be growing] I like to start them in little pots... maybe 4"across...so they will stay a bit wet... but they will also dry out ... I think they like to cycle from wet to dry..and too big of a pot keeps them moist all of the time..
I read a great post awhile back about this.. the jist of which was... that rooting underwater there is no bacteria...so when rooting there it isn't a problem... but to be put in a always wet potting soil...there is enough air to have bacteria... and you'll get rot... although I always figured that going from an underwater place.. I should keep the soil real wet also..to mimic this underwater rooting enviornment. not so.. it was quite a watershed moment of thought for me...
sorry you had to wait 35 minutes for this information for your question ... we're working on improving the responce times for our support unit... all the best there... Gordon
I think I have lost my Cypress Gardens too. How unusual. The others are starting to put out little roots and look healthy so far. My CG was very small though and that may have been the problem. I started it potted first and it began rotting.. trimmed it and tried water with bubbler. Not 100% gone yet. I am so thrilled with my cuttings. Gordon, I bet you think I am a bum... I have the postage sitting here on my desk... finally and it is going in the mail tomorrow when I go to the post office. My sincerest apologies.
Tammie
Oh, now don't feel bad about the Cypress Gardens, Gordon. While I'm always hopeful, and think I am superwoman when it comes to gardening...ha!!...in reality, I know I'm not and fully expect to lose things. Experience taught me very quickly to accept that fact!
Okie dokie, in the soil they'll go and I've got lots of that size clay pots to put them in, too. My DH will be really glad to get these off the kitchen counter. LOL. Once they're potted up, I'll put them under the lights in my basement. My lonely brug down there (Cherub) will be glad for the company. :-)
I know what you mean about the water/soil/oxygen thing. I've got golden pothos starts that have been rooting in water for about 6-8 months (haven't seen the need to pot them up yet), and they're good and healthy, so why wouldn't they like wet soil? But I know that isn't the case.
Oh may I completly forgot to check back with you.... I am so sorry... well, since you lived here, I should plant them in pots rigth? can I leave then in sunroom for the winter? I put in water first right?
I will email you on your hotmail account!
Gordon, do you have any Cypress Gardens cuttings left? I will be glad to send postage.
Thanks,
Chris
did postage make it?? i hope it gets there before the holiday rush. seems its been taking my other stuff i sent the same day a extra day or two to get there.
Xmas just arrived at my house! Wowzers!!! I couldn't believe the size of the cuttings you sent. Thank you soooooo much for taking the time and for being such a wonderful and generous person! You made my day!!
I've got them all in rooting gel packs. I did this for some other special brug cuttings I received in a trade and they rooted very quickly.
Gord, I sent you an email.
Thanks again!!
:) Donna
I potted most of them up, as they have put out very healthy roots! This is really exciting for me, as I'm a brug newbie.
did you get my address? mine is sym105276@gmail.com?
Well, I definitely lost the cypress but everything else you sent is rooting well. It is wonderful to see things growing so fast.
I am thinking of potting them soon. I rooted them in polymer gel so when I get ready to pot, they will take the gel with them attached to the roots. The roots actually grow through the crystals. I provides a good water resevoir if I forget to water them later when they are out in the sun this summer. It keepst moistrue in the pot without it being wet. The roots will find the water in them.
Tammie
Well verry good there Tammie... I must admit we were all sorry about cypress gardens... I'd had a bit of a rot problem with them in their first storage water... when I made the cuttings I put them in a large container.. when I was getting them out for shipment I noticed a bit of rot on the end... I cut this away.. washed with H2O2 and let soak in superthrive and H2O2.. I was hopeful I had caught it .. and stabalized them...guesss I sent out bad CG cuttings..so ya'll still have your 100% success on these...minus the sick one.. Gordon

Oh Gordon, absolutely NO complaints from me! They're all potted up and seemingly doing well under lights in the basement. :-)
I'm getting new leaves! :-)
Mine are also getting new leaves while they're rooting in the gel packs. Everything has rooted except for one little cutting that went mush. I'm going to pot everything up tonight.
:) Donna
As a newbie to growing brugs I took advantage of your offer for postage. I received 4 cuttings. (The CG didn't make it) The other three are doing great. I can't believe how fast they grow. I potted them as soon as the roots started growing. Thanks again for sharing your cuttings. A very satisfied customer. Three beautiful plants are a great start.

well... I'm glad everything is growing so well for everyone.. they were pretty charged up/helthy when they were cut..and brought inside.. the empty areas I posted a picture of before here are now filled... the leafless brugs haveputout aslew of leaves.. and piles of blooms... the whites look so much better inside... with norealwindor heat stress from the sun.. the blooms last so much longer inside it seems... many dozens open every night ... and 60 or more buds to follow.. it's almost too much to bear... swooning is a common occourance while working on the computer underneath in the evenings///
so much nicer than a pile of dormant sticks in the garage.. these plants have been up..growing and blooming on and off for 5 years or better ..suffering no ill effects from growing all of the time... Gordon
The 'Texas Pink' are doing the best of all of mine. I'm amazed at the growth I'm seeing ALREADY! I just took this picture a few minutes ago, and as you can see, they are living happily among the geraniums (and other things) in my basement under grow lights, where it remains a constant 65° with about 60% humidity.
