Very Nice Kyle
I love my crotons you just cant kill 'em, hurricanes 'n all. I have a new favorite called Mrs Icetone but can't seem to find any big ones. Its a nice pale pink color.

I have a couple of nice ones that I will be trimming soon. I have NO idea of their names so I guess I will have to post pictures....

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Dutchlady are they different from these?

Very nice! I especially like Mrs. Iceton pink - how hard is it to find these?

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

OMG how lucky you are!! I can't choose. I've tried. I love them all.

You pick I'll be thankful regardless!!!

Have you been at DG for long? I just joined. Love it.

Jeri

OK - this proved to be a popular offer. I will have to say stop for now.
There will be more cuttings later, I'm sure.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

foliage plants never let me down. these are all so vibrant. i bought two for the first time this year, and love them. i was wondering how cold hardy they are. i thought i remembered reading they couldn't withstand a frost, but i could be confusing that with a different plant. i would really hate to lose them.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I recently took a 'renewed' interest in Crotons, too....and am hoping to find a very "Orange" one someday.
I agree, the pink form Mrs. Iceton is gorgeous!

Carol....a friend in Fla. recently sent me one with very long thin 'needle-like' (for lack of a better word) leaves and it has since lost them all ..... (has a tag but it's at home) then she stated that hers, too, is losing many of it's leaves....does yours tend to do that ?
I've cut it back in hopes that it will re-grow.

Yours are gorgeous, as well, DutchLady1!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Mrs Iceton i wonderful. dutchlady you have some beauties!
Nan the needle-like could be Picasso's brush? (or something like that) It's a pretty neat plant. I have it and have not killed it yet.
I love crotons' colorful foliage but I can't seem to get a hang on how to care for them. I see 2 popular varieties growing well around here, but never see fancy ones as posted above
all the ones I got from the guy in Puerto Rico were gone, and quickly.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I got some from the guy in PR too all made it ok and are finally growing like crazy. Crotons like to be fed and watered well but not be cold and wet.

Mol, Belgium(Zone 8a)

DutchLady1, just to say that the first picture isn't a croton (codiaeum) but Aucuba japonica (specifically the variety 'Crotonifolia' )

http://images.google.es/images?svnum=10&hl=es&lr=&q=aucuba%20japonica%20crotonifolia

Regards

Carlos

OK thanks for letting me know.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Do Acubas even live in SW Florida? It is almost too hot for them here in my garden. The leaves burn very easily here, even in the shade. They loved it in my previous homes in zone 7 & 8.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

ardesia I grow my aucuba in mostly shade and it thrives. This is my consolation "colorful foliage" plant as I've not been successful w/ crotons.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Vossner...forgot to check last night, but if I recall correctly, it was 'something-brush' or 'something-paintbrush', you're right!

Who's 'The guy in PR', you two??:)

Fort McCoy, FL

Those are beautiful. I never knew there were so many varieties. This is my first garden here in FL. I planted 2 of them. Do I cut them back in the winter? Would I take cuttings or what to make new plants. HHHEEELLLPPP.
Gail

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

fall is the reccomended time to take cuttings, and as far as varieties there are over 600 kinds and hybrids, many are so similar and probably the same ones.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Hmmm....fall is the time to take cuttings, but is it a good time to *root* them (here in the North, anyway)?
I've only been able to root them outdoors in the heat/humidity of summer.

How do you root yours this time of year, Kyle?

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I was so intrigued by the photos that Dutchlady posted that I tried to search for some sources of different crotons. Not much luck, lots of curly boys, etc. but nothing as beautiful as that pink!

From what I read you root them like any other plant, nothing special and they are super easy to root.

If you guys have any good sources for some of the more unusual ones PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pass the info along!!!

Thanks.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Nan, I have a 40 ft long mist propagator at work.bottom heat and lots of humidity.

april, you can get small plants of pink or yellow mrs. Iceton from Lowes or Home Depot if they carry Angel tropical plants.they come in assortments.
Most times they have about 6-7 new kinds. Not many retailers carry crotons, in the south (Fla) people are bored with them most of the time.It is so common.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Thx- will look closer at Lowes & HD.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

that is so true what eclipse says about crotons and FL, lol! while the rest of us pine away

I also love the Angel tropical plant series. They are usually in their own little cabinet at Lowes/HD, all in little 4" pots and usually no more than $7 ea. Every time I visit these stores I always ck this section for unusual stuff.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Oooops...just got back here. Nan...I have the worst luck rooting crotons and a friend of mine has great luck. Go figger...and we do the same things! I prefer to airlayer!!! Nan...I can send you some Orange...but let's wait until spring, OK?

Maybe I will try to take cuttings now (fall) and see if I am successful. There is NOTHING like a hedge of colorful crotons in the full sun....WOW...knocks your socks off!!!

Will take my camera to town on Tuesday and try to get some pictures of great bushes there....

Toodles

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Aha, Kyle....I see ~ guess I can't match that method!! LOL!!

Thanks, Carol......I'll get in touch with you then!
