This is a good site as well. I'm like a kid again, the picture gallery is my Sears & Robuck catalog.
I'm sure there are more sites. I enjoy lurking in the Brugmansia forum too (since I only have a few cuttings started).

When you say Forsyth, do you mean normal yellow forsythia? In which case, I'd like to get cuttings of that...

Well, I'm fixin to pedal to the mailbox. I work on a 25a farm & it is a walk to go to the street.
Forgot to ask, if you had any of those water oaks left. If so, I would be glad to take them off your hands.
Thanks.

Just a note of warning. Water Oaks in Florida can be very invasive. They produce hundreds of seedlings non stop and can completely cover a yard in a year, not to mention the neighbors. My next door neighbor has one and can't even grow grass because the seedlings take over everywhere. I had to put in a 2 car concrete driveway to halt their invasion of my yard but still pull up errant seedlings every week.

my money went out in morning mail

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I got your wonderful package, and the cuttings look wonderful and you were very generous! If anyone has tips on rooting the rose, let me know; I've never rooted roses before.

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

Got my cuttings yesterday. Thank you very much. Nice one too.

Springville, AL(Zone 7a)

Here we go again.... I have a few water oaks probably 60 foot tall. I also mow my yard on a regular basis. When I mow....the unwanted seedlings disappear. I have never had my neighbors on either side complain about the Water oak seedlings. But since some folks feel they are invasive... I will not be able to ship them to anyone. Sorry to the folks who might like to have a few for Bonsai projects, or who might be alive in 20 years when they mature and produce acorns. This is the main reason I left Dave's for a year.
I will finish these cuttings for postage, and then I will not offer any more plants or cuttings, or seedlings.
It has been wonderful for the most part meeting and dealing with the wonderful people here from DG. But it is just not worth the hassle of dealing with invassive plants and such!!
I will finish this thread, so please rest assured I will fill the orders that folks have requested for the cuttings.
Thanks!!

I'm sorry to hear this. It is a shame that you have had this experience. I appreciate you and and all of the wonderful people here who are willing to share their gardens with us. It is how I got started here in Texas. Thank you so much for the time and effort you have put forth.

There is not a plant that is not evasive in some place
that is why if it get frisky kill it and grow some thing else
Don't let a few people run you off .
griping is a way of life with some folks .
you have made a lot of people very happy with your plants and generosity .

I don't know of any Oak tree in Texas that invasive. Chinaberry, maybe.
I have mailed air potato to other DGers! If you google it up, it is invasive in Florida. Florida has RUs to try & control it! Here in Texas, it is a beautiful vine & most of us are glad if we can get potatoes for next year. :~)

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

blckwolf256 Bless you, you have mail

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I agree with Tazzy.. almost every plant can be invasive somewhere. Here, it is trumpet vines... unless you know how to kill them... I finally figured it out this year. Happy Dance all summer! someone is going to gripe or complain about something... don't worry about it please. I grow cannas and many friends here have said... "they are so invasive"... well, I guess i won't offer them any then. Trick with cannas here, reduce water available to them.... no more invasive! Every plant has its tricks.
My money went to the carrier late this afternoon. I am sure it will go out by tomorrow.

Thank you all so much!!
And you are all right!! I WANT to share what I have! And I guess it was pretty childish and selfish of me to close the thread, because of a comment!!! I need to just ignore some comments.
So...anyone wanting cuttings or SEEDLINGS...just let me know!!!
Thanks so much for your support!!!!

happy face here

Sue---

PLEASE DON"T LEAVE US!!! You are a good person to do what you are doing and I know that others appreciate your wonderful sharing, caring heart as I do!

Trumpet vines are invasive...I finally was able to get one and I LOVE mine!!!

Chicory has the most beautiful blue flowers..."it's a WEED others will say disdainingly", too bad I LIKE MY CHICORY and I even bought seeds for it, so there!!!

No matter what a person will do, or say, someone else will find fault with something...

PLEASE STAY!!!

Jan and Sue,

I adore the combination of Queen Anne's Lace (mmm, the smell) and Chicory. I've been nagging my DH forever to help me grow QAL in our garden - we've tried a lot of tricks, but I think I finally got it. Now to break it to him about the chicory! A weed to one person is a flower to another. And here on DG, I think it's pretty much caveat emptor - buyer beware. I think the 'invasive' commenter was trying to show sort of the whole picture, a 'note of warning' as s/he called it, for traders who live in Fla. Please don't be bitter and PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR MARBLES AND GO HOME.

xxxxx, Carrie (lurking)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Hi Carrie, I've got seed for the Queen Anne's Lace (just collected last weekend) and also for the Chicory. I grow these in containers that I dig into the garden so that they stay "contained" where I want them to be. Would you like for me to send you seeds? I wintersowed the seeds, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't :)

LMK...

Jan

Carrie

Re: QAL...I "thought" that is what my plant is/was. I got mine from a neighbor and now I know how plants get misidentified. What I thought was QAL does not match as far as the foliage...The foliage of my plant is a straight stem, no leaflets, that almost reminds me of chives, then it develops a bulblet on top which opens up to a round circlet of white flowers that almost exactly matches QAL. I have it growing in one of my gardens where we have our RV situated. We are going there to winterize this weekend and I will take a picture of the stems. I cut off all the spent flowerheads/seeds last weekend to keep the plant contained. My (now unidentified) plant only grows about 1 1/2' tall whereas I believe the QAL grows much taller...

I'll send a pix asap and, if you'd like, I can still give you seeds!

Jan

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That's ok; there is SO MUCH QAL around here I'll get it eventually. Other years .we've tried transplanting it w/out success but this time I think we got it, 'cause the transplanted plant stayed alive all the rest of the summer, even when it was done blooming!!! And it grows wild in my yard (but in the grass, not in the garden) but where I want it to grow is inside a raised bed ringed with a stone wall. So it's contained.

Is your 'bogus' QAL maybe bishop's weed? People offered me that often when they heard I was looking for QAL.

xxxxx, Carrie

P.S. Ever notice on Plantfiles, the top 10 'thugs' and the top ten most frequently grown plants often share at least one or two plants, sometimes more!

Springville, AL(Zone 7a)

My money order is going out tomorrow. Thank you so much. I really appreciate the plants, cuttings and seeds everyone sends me. I would never have so many pretty flowers if it wasn't for generous people like you. Pauletta

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

My money should arrive tomorrow since it has not already gotten there. Sometimes I wonder if the post office doesn't just sit on mail until they have a full truck to send out. LOL I hope you still have some left when my money arrives. The brug cutting I received is not looking good. Guess I will have to try water rooting next. It was a very small cutting... 2 to 3 "... maybe that was the problem.

Tammie

Springville, AL(Zone 7a)

LHASALOVER....was the Brug cutting one I sent to you?????? I think it must have been from someone else...because none of my cuttings were under 6" long.
I do agree with you about the PO. I guess they get so bored with the same old thing each day, that they try to find ways to make some days more interesting...lol

Springville, AL(Zone 7a)

Sorry folks.... I just packed up the last LADY BANKS ROSE cuttings...but I still have tons of the other plants!!!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

No, Sue, it did not come from you. It was from another friend who included it with a canna rhyzome she was sending. I have been reading so many conflicting things about starting them. I am thinking that water may be the best bet for me. You should be receiving my note and money tomorrow. You will know it when you see it... you get to meet my little garden helper... "Sky".

Tammie
