CLOSED: Spider (yuck!)......................good or bad?????????

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't like to kill "good" spiders, so can anyone tell me if this one is a good one????????????????????????? It certainly is a big one, at least for us city-types! :o) The body of the spider itself is about a little over an inch long.

That is a Wolf Spider, family Lycosidae. It looks as if it could be a species of Trichosa like this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/13275/bgpage
but I cannot get any closer to the species

Thanks for the tip...................but is it a good bug or a bad bug.............oh, I guess you meant I should read it for myself eh? ;o) Will do. Thanks again!

definitely a good spider to have around, Ladyborg! :)
Wolf Spiders are a great addition to your gardens and flowerbeds. They'll eat everything from roaches, silverfish to smaller spiders, etc. I leave mine alone and let them go their way....and am always happy to see them... :)

Thanks guys! Now I can make my hubby take the darn thing off my kitchen table and stop grossing me out...............excuse me while I go take another shower, I'm suddenly itchy all over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wolf spiders are neat...they don't build webs, instead chase down their prey like a wolf and the female carries her babies on her back, isn't that adorable?

Peachy! Cute enough to dress up for hallowe'en!

This actually looks like some of the spiders I've seen around my house. I asked the exterminator if he could identify a dead one, and he wasn't sure but he said it might be a baby wolf spider. The markings here are sort of similar.

I still want them all dead so I can sleep at night, but at least it's not poisonous spiders creeping around the house. That might also explain why I have so many spiders but surprisingly few webs.

They're all gone now -- I hope. The exterminator came out for the second time Friday, sprayed inside and out, and then I left for a weekend convention.

I also have scorpions.......had the exterminator out for that about 8 weeks ago. I've been stung by scorpions 3 times (1 was a stow away in my purse and got me in my car). Can you beat that?!?

Insects are more often our friends than we realize. Even the hated fireants are vigilant about controlling the tick population. When we use chemicals to exterminate, we often take out more than one beneficial bug along with our intended target.

No bugs in the house. That's my rule.

so true, Yuska....
