Fall colors at Anderson Gardens

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

Here is the first pic of what I am assuming is a red maple hybrid. Awesome color on this one in particular. You'll have to excuse some of the following pics for containing humans. And if you haven't been to Anderson Gardens in Rockford, IL, I highly recommend it, especially in the fall.

I am guessing an Acer Palmatum 'Viridis'

Still just guessing, but Acer Triflorum

Acer Japonicum "Aconitifolium' in the corner. Mine is about the same color at home. I prefer it when they are more variegated in fall color or at least more in the red range vs. purple.

Here is an Aconitifolium with better colors.

The reflecting pool gives occasion to reflect on one's inner debates. I know I shouldn't like burning bushes, but I do, I do.

Yes, the angst in that child's expression is palpable. She loves Burning Bushes for their vivid fall color, and, yet, they are so common, so over-planted, and sometimes invasive. Lo, to be innocent again, to have the burden of knowledge and its cursed moral dilemmas lifted from thy soul. But, alas, to drift with a dream backwards in time is only for the lesser of God's creatures. For us, we must carry on, and shoulder thy load. We may stop and smell the roses, sometimes. And we may stop and view a rose Burning Bush now and again, but for those three and up, such viewing must come with a bit of attitude.

Man, your daughter is expressive...and very, very cute!

Yeah, what he said.

Hi Bill,

Nice pictures from Anderson! Someday I may make it there when it's all colored up. I'm saving it in case I ever get married and tied down to my home state. I have two guesses on your maples. I'm wondering if the Red Maple hybrid would have some chlorosis which would contribute to that awesome coloration. Also, the A. triflorum looks like A. ginnala?

Regards,
Ernie

Malusman, it would make a very nice place for a wedding. They have a nice large grass area that would work great and are building a new visitor center which looks rather large, maybe with more facilities. I totally forgot about ginnala. Thanks I'll take a little chlorosis anytime for that color.

Decumbent and claypa, thanks for the compliments. Our daughter only models for the tree and shrub folks. That and the camping and hiking group.

Bill
