Gypsy Bride

Did anyone grow this variety this past season and how did they do in your zone?

where did oyu find that beauty? I had to add it to my must have list for spring.

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

The mythical "Gypsy Bride"!!!! You will get a reaction to that one here! Seems as it is a bit particular who it will bloom and set seed for. Very nice bloom. Is it on one of your plants?

I have not grown it nor tried yet....seems the seed is not too readily available.

I finally got hold of some seed at a high price. This is a photo of the parent plant. I was wondering what to expect when I try to grow it in the spring. I only got ten seeds so am worried about it not blooming and not setting seed.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

How about if I send one seed to the first five people that respond...the only catch being you have to share seed with me next fall (if you get any).
atenkley, you're first if you like...

Works for me. I'll give it a try.

I saw one pack on ebay. I couldn`t stand to try and "steal" it because I knew who the person was and couldn`t stand it. :)

I think they are stunningly georgous!!!

I figure I`ll get to try these sooner or later. Lord knows I have tried a bunch of them!

The photos shown are from seeds that I gave to David - who sells on eBay.
Joseph has had success with his blooms. No idea if he is getting seeds.

I started these early spring and ended up ripping them out - MISTAKE - because I thought they were going to do to me what they did last year and just give me a lot of HUGE leaves and no blooms. I have now learned that they are a 'LATE BLOOMER' at least in my zone.

David's blooms that baolvera has posted are quite unusual. This particular seed was 'supposed' to have Lilac Eyes, however, if you will look closely, you will see that there are more colors in his blooms. Looks like they are throwing all colors as well as unusl multi streaked ones.

Scottsdale, AZ

will torties eat MGs?

Don't you just love the flowers of this MG? Wow!

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

baolvera, I'll bite! Growing it in the various climates makes sense from a risk mitigation standpoint....as well as interesting to see where it thrives next year! I'm sure I'll find something to return the favor....You have D-mail. - Arlan

Emma, glad to know the seeds I got originally came from your seed plants. I hope by sending the seeds to be grown in different climates, we can get more available for the MG community.

HI Beth,
This is a great idea to spread the seeds throughout different climates.
I hope everyone will give us feedback on their results next year.
Also, as I understand it, the strain of the seeds that I received were originally grown in Guatamala.

I feel faint!! Swooning over this one. I am so sorry that I missed out on sharing this beauty. Please keep us informed for next growing season, as I am sure that many here would love to know about seeds for this one!!

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I certainly hope that out of the 8 of us growing it, at least one of us should produce seed. I am hoping with a small group dedicated to this project we can reduce the scarcity of seed.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

To those who will be getting seed in the mail....our supply apparently came from Guatamala to Emma, who sold them to David Hughes in Indiana, who successfully grew them and they produced seed.

Scottsdale, AZ

baolvera, I hope we are successful in getting seeds. This one should be spread and enjoyed by lots not just a few.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

This one little seed alone will get me through the winter!! I hope I am successful in getting seeds.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I got my precious little seed today. I filed the little seed still inside the very nice silver bubble envelope with a few other babies I`m keeping through the winter. Thanks for giving me a chance to try this one. You are so very much appreciated. I`ll grow it,give it my best care and hope for the best!

P.S.The seed looks like one of the Hige pink seeds but it is way bigger.

Just got the mail and my seed was there. It's safely under lock and key until the weather warms.

Thank you for entrusting me with it, promise good care and prayers for successful pods developing.

My little Gypsy arrived today!! Thank you for entrusting us to her. I will give it my best shot. Looking forward to next summer!!!

I had this one bllom and set seeds for me this year. It took a long time in germinating, and didn't bloom until Sept, but the flowers were stunning. I'm hoping this will come true from seed. I only got a few because of an early cold spell.

Before the time comes to plant our golden babies, maybe we should decide if its appropriate to use the peroxide water method or not. Should some use it, others not as a test to see what works best ect.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome as always.

Jude

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I do use a drop of peroxide in rooting, but not seed germination. The most important thing about seed germination that I have found is the temp of the potting mix you are trying to germinate the seed in...so I use a heat mat. Anyone have good luck with peroxide in seed germination? I want to hear what you do!

Scottsdale, AZ

Vera, the search enging here is down right now, but I'll look for the threads I've read on this and send you links here when I find them

I'm soaking mine in Messenger. Thank you for the reminder about the heat mat.

I'll follow whatever you'd like me to Vera.

I need to know what Messenger is

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I have never used Messenger...can you "guys" enlighten me,
Beth

Dowagiac, MI

It's like a plant hormone. Here is a link to Eden Bioscience the company that makes it. I use it as a mist on growing plants, and as a soak for seeds that require soaking. They also have a puffer for regular seeds, t dust them before planting, and some really good plant food called "Mighty Plant" I did some casual tests, plants treated, and plants not treated, and believe me, there was no comparison. www.edenbio.com

Great tip, read the promo and placed my order right away. That and your testimonial were enough for me, I want success witth this one precious seed as well as many others I have.

Thanks blpender
