Ron really liked this one so I thought I'd share. I resized it down so as not to give Dave's server a hernia. If you wish to see the supersized one go here:

Thanks! This new camera is incredible. The more I use it the more I realize I haven't learned hardly any of its capabilities. I'm just sorry that this is not the time of year for very many insects. I really wish I could find one of my green lynx spiders.

Speaking of pics of insects. Did you all see Dinu's pic of Blue Water Lily and Bee. Stunning!!!

What a great picture! This is the one plant I grew this year that my DW always commented on. She particularly liked the pink variety.

I took some pictures of a green lynx female guarding her huge egg case last weekend. The dark spikes on their legs look so cool!

Looks like your new camera is doing well for you! - Arlan

I need to get me one of these camera's. I love taking close ups and mine cannot even touch these. Great job once again!

WOW ! I'm drooling alll down the front of my tee shirt. The camera is great but what a flower!! Well done, I wish I had some of those............. what's the name so I can look for them please.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks!

The flower is commonly known as Cypress Vine. They come in pink and white as well.

Well Arlan, why haven't you trotted out your lynx picture? You can't describe something like that and keep it to yourself!

I found a really strange bug on my Confederate Rose this afternoon. Trying to get an ID in Garden Foes but so far no one seems to know it.

It looks like a ladybird larva that is fixing to pupate.

I'm on the road again.... when I return this weekend I'll find the lynx picture on the other computer and see if it's worthy of public scrutiny! As I recall, I think the photo had a leg in front of its (her) eyes....

Those are very nice critter pics! Nice DOF. It looks like your camera does really well with the very close stuff! Mine struggles a bit ( or maybe I do!) when I get that close.

That's one of the reasons I wanted it .. for macro work. For a few hundred dollars more I could have gotten closer! Lol.

Wow!

For me I`d wonder if getting closer than that would give me strange dreams about giant bugs..like the King Kong movie. :)

X, your photography skills always thrill me! Maybe one day when the kids are grown and some of the bills dwindle away, we can have a camera like that. I have some seeds for this (thanks Arlan!) that I can't wait to try next year. I particularly love the delicate foliage combined with the smaller flowers; a very airy look.

I think Gerris is right, that looks like the scads of larvae I had this year on a watermelon plant I moved with me from Florida back to Georgia. About a week after I arrived, the plant was literally covered with those on the underside of the largest leaves - makes me wonder what kind of food source had been living on the plant ...LOL!

That photo Dinu captured was absolutely gorgeous as well. I'm finding that a gardener's eye makes for great photography and have learned so much here on DG from others.

Thanks for sharing!

Those are great! I love those little spikey things on the legs. I don't think I've ever seen one of my lynx's with an egg sack.

Thanks!!!

Whoa! Glad you got that shot Arlan and not me. I'm still kind of easily critter-creeped out, although I'm working to overcome it now that I am in the dirt with so many of 'em...lol!

I had one of those hairy jumping spiders patiently waiting amongst the bloom of a dahlia today - he was kinda cute (from non-jumping range) :D

Great pics again.
