Digging and moving Orienpet Lilies

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Hello Everyone, I am new to these beauties ............ only having planted them 2 summers ago and never digging or moving any of them.

I have some that are in a poor location. They are on the west side of the house, so they lean too much trying to find the sun.

I have a new bed in full sun where I would like to move them to, but I do not know when would be the best time to do that. Is it too late for me to do it now, we are having hight temps in the 50's (when were lucky), and have already seen snow, but the ground is still workable. Would I be better off waiting until Spring?

Details on digging and replanting would be welcomed. Or a link to a website where I can look up the information myself.

I have SCHEHERAZADE, SILK ROAD, and LESLIE WOODRIFF ...... would love to get a few different one's to add to my gardens.

Does anyone know of a source for KING KONG or GODZILLA ? Or perhaps you have some other favorites to recommend.

I've also seen a Trumpet Lily I like named MIDNIGHT.

This is the perfect time to move them. The ground temps are still above freezing and the bulb will be able to start putting new roots down for the next couple of months or so until the ground freezes and will be all ready to go in the spring....They are are lot easier to find this time of year and you don't have to worry about breaking off the new growing stem as you would if you moved in the spring.
Good luck!

Moving lilies right now in your zone is perfect. The soil is cool and workable. I have split many over the last few weeks. Nice picture of Schez there. Giving them a winter to settle in is the best situation, if you have the time to do it.

Now is the best time to move them. Expect the bulbs to be bigger and probably deeper than when you planted them so dig wide so as not to slice the bulb. Replant 6-8 inches deep (measured from the top of bulb).

Buggycrazy carries King Kong and Godzilla.

Before you buy more lilies (especially Midnight) check out this thread:

Many people here have been disappointed when they purchased Midnight from the strain.

pardalinum, thanks for the help.

I didn't see any reference to MIDNIGHT in the thread you linked me to, but I read through it quickly.

Enjoyed what I read, and will go back and check it again when I have more time.

Thanks again,
Kathy

After you move, WATER. Even if it is raining.

If moving martagons, mark well with a stick. They may sulk and stay underground for the firSt year or so. LEAVE THEMM ALONE.

Inanda - still planting
