i had the luck to identify this one before it made it to dg, but thought you all may be interested in seeing it. the ones i have flying around right now are 1.5" long and very hard-shelled. they are bright metallic on the underside and a gun-metal gray on top. true to what the article says about them, they are constantly flying right into me, hence my rush to find what they were before the neighbors called the "wagon" for me. lol http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/choate/chalcophora1.htm
the green stuff at the back end is guts. sorry folks, i had to stomp it to take pictures.

Well, that's one way to keep them still. LOL
hey ceejay!
hey, trackin! Good to see ya!
have you ever run into any of these little fellas? i jumped about 5' straight up and screamed the first time one came whizzin' in and hit me in the chest. they are like little silver bullets, but no lone ranger.
Yeah, I've seen them around. Can't say I've ever had to dodge them, though!
