CLOSED: Bees anyone?

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

I didn't really know where to post this. I haven't seen any bees for a long time, someone once told me that many had died from an infestation. Whether or not this is true, I have just found a bee in my PF vine! Has anyone else heard anything?

That looks like a plain, ordinary, and very happy honeybee! That would be a very, very good sign for you neighborhood......................honeybees = health

Honey bees have been plagued with mites in N.America for the last couple decades, it's a real tragedy. There are other bees that are resistant, though. There is a beekeeping forum on Dave's garden home forums if you're interested. Here's a link about the mite problem bees are facing: http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~acarolog/beemite.htm

Thanks! I saw 3 bees yestreday and have had a couple of yellow jackets in the past month. Hopefully things are looking up for our little garden helpers.

I know what happened to all the bees and wasps. They're all here. Really! I have a ton of them. There are still some buzzing around, even this late in the year. As far as I know they're honey bees. They look like your "garden variety" bee to me.

Can you pack some up and send them our way?!! Seriously haven't seen bees in this area for about 5 years.

I have lots of honey bees around lately!..I am a newbie gardener, but I do know they are good to have around..but do they sting? Or if they do, do they hurt like a big ole red wasp? I just let them "bee"..heehee..do my best not to disturb 'em! They seem to love my hibiscus, honey suckle, and mandevilla!
