A Sony DSC-H5. I got tired of having to mess with itty bitty cd's. It's going to take a while to learn it!

I`m so jealous. :)

No,my plants are green with envy not me. They will have to wait a bit for me to get that kind of camera for such good close ups. :)

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

When I uploaded the pictures to the computer from the camera and looked at them I gasped! I couldn't believe it, I was utterly stunned. Makes my old Sony look like a brownie.

Awesome. I should be getting a new camera in the spring, after I get my income tax refund.

OMG am having depth of field envy LMBO Congrats on the new acquisition!!

What a great picture, X!!

You are going to love it, I can tell! It is a lot of fun learning about your plants at the macro level. Congratulations! - Arlan

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Y'all. I was out in the greenhouse again this morning photographing todays offerings. It's an amazing camera. Lol .. already I'm thinking .. i wanna get closer!. If I had had 300 dollars more I could have gotten closer, but had to um settle for what I have. I had a choice between a wood floor for the living room or the camera. Glad I chose the camera. Maybe next year I'll get an electron microscope? ;-)

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

X i have a good site if you want to get a Electron Micrope ? Regards Paul

It is almost enough to coax me away from my cherished film camera. Wow!

Joseph

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Joseph I was lucky enough to get into digital in the mid 90's. After 30 years of film and destroying my hands in decktol, acetic acid and hypo clear, I was delighted to switch. I finally gave my old film camera, bulk loaders & darkroom to a cousin in 2001 when digital macro started improving.

Wow this is an awesome picture. I just got my digital camera this summer. But I will definetly be trying for one of these in the next year.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

My jaw dropped and I was 'transphyxiated' when I saw this picture...absolutely buoyant(!) to see this type of captivating photography here on the MG forum...its a whole new world...

Ron

man! I need a new camera too.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Nice!!! Macro rules!!!

I am waiting for the prices to come down on the Sony DSC-H5...has Sony come out with a new iteration of the H5? If so the prices ought to come down sometime...hopefully sooner than a decade.

Joseph

Probably after christmas

Wowzers! That is awesome, X!!! I've been basically happy with my camera compared to what I had before, but I have been wanting to take even better close ups. Your new camera is great because you can buy additional lens for it......hmmmmmm.

Why drop jaws, my eyebrows blew away! .............Still searching them, and still trying to take such pictures.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Me too. I gotta have a good camera now...I just gotta have it. :)

Dear X,

Would it be possible to reveal how the camera captures such crystal clear depth of field? I have been reading up on this particular camera and is it just the optical imaging stabilization technology that corrects for our hand shaking and shutter release that does it? The 12x magnification capabilities must also help in bringing the subject up close and personal.

On a separate theme, why do some ebay sellers spray water on their MG flowers for the images used in their listings? I see where it is a bit artistic to have a few little beads of water glinting in the sun, but one particular seller seems to overdew it (sorry pun alert. I couldn't help it, X put the bucket of water down aieeee!).

Joseph

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I dunno. I`m not presently selling but quite a lot of my pictures are victims of downpours. I live in Louisiana and it rains buckets here.

At least the flowers don`t look as bad as my cats after a bath. :)

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Ha ha.... nice comparison there! The tiny droplets add a bit of beauty to the already beautiful object, I reckon.

X,

Does the DSC-H5 have an interchangeable lens? Just curious. Thanks!

Joseph

So the lens itself is not interchangeable, but has an adapter that permits lens attachments, very clever.

Mesilla Park, NM

All I can say is I want one of those... ditto everyone else.

X Great photos you took there.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

X have you purchased the adapter and lens?
:) Donna

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

No. I might once I'm totally comfortable with all the features.

X

Hey gang, I bought one of these cameras. What a complex device compared to the non-digital cameras!!

Joseph

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Congratulations Joseph! A whole new world is ready to open up before you! You will love it! When do we get the inaugural shot?

Arlan

Thanks, Arlan! I have to charge the batteries first. Then figure out how to use it, which fortunately may be a simple process if I follow the picto-graph instructions. I have a couple of Gesneriads flowering well so they will be the first subjects. What fun!

Joseph

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

Wait til you get your first absolutely in focus picture of your favorite flower! Once it is on your computer you can zoom in to incredible detail like nothing else...truly another world! I love it....and I'm sure you will!

Arlan

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Way to go, Joseph!! Hurry and show us some pictures!!
:) Donna

I figured out how to use the camera a little more. Now all I need is some Ipomoea to shoot!

Here are a couple images of some Gesneriads I am growing:

This is Columnea scheideana, not opened yet; I really like the way the camera can capture the hair-like structures.

Here it is, fully opened.

Lastly, here is Chirita 'Halsko', variegated foliage to drool over!

Oh yeah!...there is no turning back now! Those are great, Joseph! I grew few Gesneriads whan I lived in Portland. You are capturing great detail! Can't wait for your Ipomoea...
