Three no name epescia. They are quite large. One is just coming into bloom. I love the green and white one. Can't wait to see what color the blooms are. The brown one in back is coming into bloom and it looks like they will be yellow and pink.

October 2006 Pictures
Hopefully you will see these blooms. They are a little like the lipstick plant. First the tube appears then the bloom. These blooms are yellow with black/red dots.
Both the lipstick plant and the guppy plants seem to love a sunny window. Both get afternoon sun. The windows have filtering agents in them. I have the windows open in cooler weather.

Beautifully grown!
So good to see you back.
Hugs

Thanks MsC. I would love to see some of your plants. You were the first one to inspire me!
Nanna wow Thanks for your October 2006 plant show. more stunning than ever. Their all gorgous and perfectly grown ! Thank you so much I really enjoyed them ! Thanks for sharing !
Thanks, Allison. You are very generous.
very nice!
if I might suggest something.... how about a variegated columnea next? (That is, if you like variegation.....) The kind that needs shorter daylight hours in the winter and a bit of a chill down? It looks like you might have those conditions :-)

Keyring out ;-)
All your plants are so wonderfully grown, Nannanavarro..! Love looking at those pictures.
How do you get your guppy plant bloom so nicely? Mine don't like me much, the buds keep on drying and dropping, but the foliage is so healthy, just having problem with buds drop.
Thanks for sharing the pictures..
Thanks, Ki, I just got some cuttings of columnea "Rudolph Valentino". It is rooting nicely. I think I will see how it does then try your suggestion of the variegated columnea. Thanks for the suggestion.
It is nice to move to other plants besides av's. I was getting a little crazy and had too many.
Baileykat. Thank you. Don't know if this is right or not. av's have problems with blooms when there is not enough light. Could that be the problem?
The only other things that I can think of is watering. I let mine dry a little before watering. I use balanced fertilizer about once a month.
I wish you luck with your guppy plant. They are so cute and propagate so easily.
WOWZA!
Thanks for posting some of your gorgeous blooms! I've started "branching out" into other gessies lately also... but *ahem* I'm afraid I haven't become much less obsessed with AVs in compensation, LOL.
Where did you get your pink-leafed episcia in the first picture? I recently bought a very similar one (also a no-name) at Dutch Plant Farm in Frederick. I have no idea what the blooms are like... has yours bloomed?
what does your Rudolph Valentino look like? I recently found mine - I got it as a cutting last year. I must say, it looks awful :-( I have leaves on the tips, but the rest of the stems have completely defoliated..... I've moved it to a spot where I can see it.
I've seen descriptions of it as having light green leaves, but mine are medium-dark green. Red tinge to the stems, red backs.... Generally gorgeous (in my opinion ;-) but I'm guessing that perhaps I need to give mine more light.
I also just looked up the parents - C. schiediana on one side (that's the one with speckled red flowers and is a real rugged grower - takes all kinds of abuse), and a mess of several species on the other (including one erythrophaea grandparent).
Anyway..... keep us posted on how yours does. :-)
ooops, almost forgot. Does yours look like this?
hmmmm... looks like mine might be mislabeled....
I think the pinkish things are the "bloom holders" -- like the tube of the lipstick plant. What do I do with them. Leave them alone or cut them off.
There is a piece of another green plant in with them. Just stuck it there until tomorrow when I can plant it properly.
Does this look like it is supposed to?
The women that gave me the plant is very reliable. She has been the past president of the BAVA. First name is Shirley. Can't remember her last name right now. I trust that this plant is what she says it is.
Nanna they are all stunning. You really have more than just a green thumb! What color are your toes? LOL
One of your Episcias, the pink/raspberry metalic one looks a great deal like one I have, Strawberry Patch. Don't know if they are the same, but look like it to my untrained eye.
Jill the pink (red) leafed episcia, infact all the the picture are from Behnki's Nursery. They have really added to their house plant collection. I got both buppy plants, the lipstick plant, and all three strep from there. It is located in Beltsville MD. Never had any problems with bugs, etc. They even have a store card for discounts. I really enjoy going there.
Mine hasn't bloomed yet. No signs of blooms.

Thanks aprilwillis. I hope to find names for them. It might be easier when they bloom. Any suggestions on how I might help them along?
I have a very large plant that has pink blooms. Don't know the name of it either. No blooms are open right now but there are many just forming.

we probably have cuttings from the same plant.... except that mine looks wrong. Note how mine has uniform red on the back, whereas yours has a slight streaking. Yours is also a lighter green. Your cutting matches what I've seen on the web and it also matches what you would expect from a plant that has schiediana as one parent. Mine, on the other hand..... Ah well, it's possible that it was mislabeled when it was bagged for the sale. No doubt someone from the society could ID it if I took it in.....
on the episicia IDs, the only way to ID them accurately is to see who supplied behnke. Episcia hybrids are being grown from seed in large quantities and many of the seedlings look the same. Add to that the fact that environmental conditions can alter the way the leaves look - it's tricky to ID them correctly.
I have a green noid that looks like yours and I have it labeled E. probably Spearmint. lol.
Your pink one I think is closer to Alice's Aussie. Guessing from the other two, the leaves on yours look to be smaller than Strawberry Patch. (But I've never grown Alice's Aussie so I don't know how large its leaves are.) Also, SP tends to have a lighter midrib, and doesn't have the dark quilt type of marking near the edge.....
baileykat - my guppy plant was happier on a SE window than under lights... not sure if that helps any.
I've got E. 'Strawberry Patch' (thanks, bigred!), and it's definitely different than the one I picked up at DPF (which looks just the same as Nanna's)... There was a series of Episcias with "Country" in the name that had really similar foliage, but until it blooms I don't think I'll be able to make a "lookalike" ID for it, and I'm sure getting a true ID for Episcia noids isn't any more likely than with AV noids.
I have to make a trip out to Behnke's! They were my favorite nursery before we moved to Frederick, and there is another one a little closer to me (in Potomac) that I haven't been to for way too long. :-)
Thanks Nanna for posting what's new this October! All so very pretty and enjoyable to see.
Wow Nanna, your plants are all so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Jesse
Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate your comments and help.
Nanna great plants ! Love Rudolph ! Your first I think it is looked like an E. Spearmint I grew once. All kinds of eviroments can grow differences too ! But wow your plants are great !
"I think the pinkish things are the "bloom holders" -- like the tube of the lipstick plant. "
I usually leave the calyxes on until they fall off, especially if the plant it new to me. Sometimes they turn out to be buds, and other times a seed pod, and the rest of the time, they fall off.....
Thanks Ki
Thanks for sharing some tips on the guppy plant. I moved the location, hopefully it'll be happier there and bloom.
Again, those are fabulous plants, Nannanavarro...! Loved looking at the pictures...
Hope things work out for you. The little fishy blooms are so fun to watch.
Nanna,
All your plants look great. I don't care if your Episcias are named or not. When you get ready to trade a few I have some named ones. Yours are just gorgeous.
Tami
