I was in Los Angeles in the spring a few years ago and as we were riding around we saw so many yards on the the hillsides just covered in bright pink blooms. It was beautiful! Anyone know what was that ?
pink yards
Perhaps mesembryanthemum?

Might be. I looked it up here in a search when I read your post and in the threads that popped up also came up with Kactus Kathy's photo of delosperma cooperi pink ice covering a huge area of her yard. I just received a piece of pink ice from Flicker... I wonder if that is it? I hope so ! It was covering yards ! Way up on the hill sides you could see masses of pink. It was gorgeous. Thank you for responding wcgypsy.
Yes, if it was spring it was probably delosperma, aka ice plant. Pre-eminent choice of groundcover planting by CalTrans on median strips and freeway entrances/exits. Wish it flowered more than once a year, as en masse it is stunning in bloom.
Oh wonderful! Thank you jkom51. I've put it in a pot but I think I will turn it loose in the ground and see what heppens. I have lots of portulaca (this reminds me of) that I just poked in the dirt anywhere I thought it needed to be, and in no time it's all over blooming like crazy and it comes back every year. I hope this does the same.
