Do you have to cure a succulent cutting?

What happens to the cutting if you don't cure it for a few days? I cut the end of a plumeria cutting, dried off the sap with a paper towel, let it sit in the air for a few minutes, dipped it in Rootone, then into potting mix on a heat mat under a plant light, and made it a mini-greenhouse out of a soda bottle. Will it root or not? Thanks.

I've planted Plumeria cuttings after dipping in Rootone/rooting powder
shortly after cutting from parent - when the sap stopped flowing - and had success rooting the cutting. I've also just let the cutting dry for a day and planted with success. I've learned not to keep the soil too moist....but to let it dry for a day or two before watering again...too moist soil will promote a fungal or bacterial deterioration - rot of the cutting. They do root fairly easily....you should be OK!

BB - another good place to post this would be the Plumeria forum...they've got a great sticky with all kinds of wonderful info

Hi Chantell, I'm embarrassed to let Clare know I didn't cure my cutting.

Forgot to "save" this thread...hows the cutting doing? You can always make another cut slightly above the bottom - let it set for a few days to a week and then start fresh if you don't think it's doing well.

How can I tell? It's still firm, mostly green, Clare and Hetty both told me to ignore it (except to be sure to keep the potting mix moist on the heat mat). They think it won't be rooted before Christmas and that when I see leaves forming I'll know for certain.
Hetty recently posted that she dips her plumie cuttings in rooting powder after a few minutes then plants so I'm hopeful.

Both of them give great advice!! Obviously it works both ways for each of them!! Long as it stays firm and you don't have any "mush" esp. toward soil line...you're doing great!! Patience is required of these plants - I hovered needlessly - should've taken their advice to begin with...LOL

I felt it today for mush, felt firm. Keep hoping for me, dwarf plumies are supposed to be tricky to root, but Hetty said with a heat mat and extra light not a problem. No hovering.
Now if I can figure out how to root my peppermint pel! That has me stumped for sure. Posted to the geraniaceae forum, but no one's answering. Anyone know anything about pelargonium rooting?

LOL I'm going to have to look it up so I even know what it is!! :) Maybe post that as a new thread so it doesn't get lost in here...you might get more responses that way. Your plumie sounds like it's doing well...I'm so excited for you!!
