CLOSED: Any Ideas?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I found this little guy on a morning glory that was growing across a woodpile today. I think he's a nymph of something else, but that's just a guess. He's about 1/2" long and doesn't seem to want to fly. I think he has wings, but I'm not sure. Any clues as to where to start?

I'm going to look at beetles. That large thorax may be helpful.

The hind legs look almost hopper-like, but he didn't seem to want to use them that way, instead, he crawled.

I put five cents on family Cerambycidae, subfamily Cerambycinae, genus Neoclytus, maybe red headed ash borer. It does have some long hind legs for a beetle. Book says most of the family's larvae feed on dead or dying tree or shrub parts. Nice photo!

I agree. A significant resemblance to the particular longhorn beetle you've suggested.

Quite a nice shot melody! Hope you'll be adding that one to the BugFiles also.

I agree with the i.d. after googling images. First one I've ever seen, but apparently, they're pretty common.

Yup, headed for the BugFiles right now.....

Just an FYI: If an insect has fully developed wings, it is an adult. Great photo.
