Do you have a pic?

We have a brown fat-bodied spider here in Thomasville, GA that makes a web and an egg sac that look highly suspicious.

My light bill is going to be outrageous. (From sleeping with the lights on.) I assume the brown widow range is the same as the black widow?

Oops, can't leave out Texas. Australia and South Africa, too. Not Colorado, so far

Wow!

Ours are lighter than the photo- almost a translucent beige- but the body shape & size are correct and the egg sac is a dead ringer. I swore to my LH the first time that it was some kind of mutant widow, I will stand between him and the big banana spiders but I grew up in N. CA and to me any spider with a body that looks like a shiny grape who makes a messy web is evil.

I'm so glad you posted this!

We found the egg sacs for this spider in our storage shed today.
We threw them away before I thought about taking pictures.
I'll do that with the next ones (assuming I find more).

I have been finding these brown widows in my San Diego back yard for over a year. I'm sure they have been there longer though. I thought they were just immature or old black widows. I find the brown ones 10x more than the black ones. For the past few months I go out 2x a week and find at least 5 that have set up new homes. They were all over my son's play structure and now around the pool. I'm sorry but it's all out war with these. It's the only time I use poison (sparingly) in my house or yard, I feel bad, but I prefer to have my family in my back yard, not them. I have tried poison free which I prefer, but it just wasn't working. Any other alternative suggestions?

Here's a picture of the brown widow and her egg cases taken inside the door of my van in October.
