PNLS bulb catalog arrived! What are you ordering?

Lindenhurst, NY

I'm so excited, it's here. I'm looking forward to perusing it tonight and looking up pics.

What is the best place to find pics of these lilys? Or should I just google them each?

I know I can find some of them at The Lily Garden website. I tried Northwest bulbs site but can't get anything, anyone else having this problem with Northwest?

I know for sure I'm ordering another Silk Road (I have one on order).

Now for my next subject.....

tell me do you plant your lilys in grouping? Like 3 casa blancas together, and 3 or 5 silk roads together, etc.?? I bought so many 1 of each type so far and I don't know if it will look good having so many different lilys and only 1 of each.

Thanks lily buddies,
Maureen
off to plant the rest of my peonys

Maureen, it depends on the effect you want and how long you are willing to wait.....
If you like a big bunch of lilies all at once, then more than one is better....but some of the asiatics multiply so fast that you may end up splitting up the bunch pretty quickly if they run themselves out of room. On the other hand, some of the others are slower to multiply and if you want the effect of more than a solitary stalk, you may have to invest in more than one bulb....

Lindenhurst, NY

Thanks esw -- I didn't know that some of the asiatics multiply fast. Thanks for your help.

well, here is my example....the lily Pisa - bought 5 bulbs and planted in a 12" hardware cloth box, initially seemed reasonably separated....here is the first year's bloom....
edited to add that I think 6 or 7 stems came up....i was pretty happy!

The next year.....YIKES!
I left them alone and let them grow as I was so busy... Unfortunately with the very wet spring they were really hit hard with botrytis!
I am sure the crowding had something to do with it. Don't get me wrong, many of these were only 1-2 ft tall and were not quite ready to flower, but I am sure you get the picture...

ESW...holy multiplication! That there is a very good example, Maureen, of very happy asiatic lilies and their potential. Wow.

Do lily bulbs multiply like daffodils?

Lindenhurst, NY

esw - thanks for pics. Now I see what you were talking about. I love when the bulbs multiply like that!

Mag - Nice list you have there! Here's what I'm ordering:

ARIADNE
JOURNEY'S END
RIO NEGRO (HAVE ON ORDER ALREADY BUT NEED MORE)
SARABANDE
SILK ROAD(HAVE ON ORDER BUT NEED ANOTHER ONE)
ED'S SPECIAL BLEND

I wanted to try ACT TWO and BARBARELLA also but couldn't find pics of these, did you? Or were you just going off the written description?

I also want L. Lankongense but 3 for 20.00 seems pretty pricey to me.

Dun1kirk - I don't know if they multiply like daffodils, I'm too new here, but sounds like some of the asiatics do multiply like daffodils.

Maureeen-I just went off the written description. I noticed in the Spring Bulletin, the crosses involved in the ACT TWO were the same as a photo in there. See if you can find it. It was Silk Road-esque. And Catherine Van der Salm is in the picture with this new cross. I think that's it.

What's a PNLS bulb catalog?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Pacific Northwest Lily Society ~ you need to be a member to get in on the sale.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

PNWLS= Pacific Northwest Lily Society and this is the fall bulb sale...

Well after a lot of hemming and hawing I finally got my order out:

Journey's End
Madame Butterfly bag
Green tet trumpets
Melon " "
Tall Citronella
tet. Trumpet mix
Trojan
On Wisconsin
Copper Crown
Fairest
Louie XIV
Ed's Special Blend

I started removing some lilies today... a necessity if I am getting new ones...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Green Tet trumpets,
Ed's special blend --drool drool

There was one green trumpet at NALS last year. Quite spectacular. Don't know how it was brought to bloom so early.

Mag - I don't have the spring catalog but sure would love to see what ActTwo looks like. The description sounds beautiful, and I love SILK ROAD.

Pard - I see you are getting Ed's special blend also. I believe it was some of your pics that got me lusting after McRae's. I liked the description of Melon Trumpet's but I have a problem if I can't visually see what the lily looks like. I seem to do best with a pic then decide if I like the look of it. I would love to see a pic of Melon trumpet's if anyone has a pic of it. And you definitely have the right idea of removing plants to replace them. What do you do with the ones you remove? I'm so bad, I just keep cramming things in....can only do that for so long though.

Have a great day everyone -- guess where I'm going??

The bronx zoo!!! They have a snow leopard from Afganistan (or Pakistan) that is out of quarantine recently. I want to see this beauty, his name is Leo. I hope I can get some pics. I'm going to get my camera charged.
And I want to see my favorites, which are the seals and tigers.

Maureen, it was in the Spring bulletin, not sale catalog. I got it with my Fall Sale Catalog. I think that's itin there. Tell me if you can find it now. It's lovely.
Pard you have some fine selections there. I almost went for the Green Tetra myself. I had to send my order in right away, otherwise I could have spent the mint.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Would someone please post the web site for the PNWLS. I belong to Wisc. and Minn. lily assc.
