Need help with proper way to grow Crape Myrtle from seeds

I have a beautiful 30 foot tall Crape Myrtle that produced a bunch of seeds. How do I grow seedlings from this type of seed?

I did it one year, and it was very easy. I think I just held them until spring and planted them then, but it is also possible that I planted them in the fall in containers and left them outdoors over winter. Either way should work.

It's not a sure thing that the flowers will be the same color as the parent, they often turn out to be different .
