and I purchased a few BEAUTIFUL hoyas from her, and they arrived today. I love when everyone shares pictures, so I thought I would show off a few of Mel's wonderful plants. She has a huge list of available hoyas, prices are fair, and shipping is a steal! If anyone is interested, D-mail me, I will share it with you.
Here is the huge, healthy macrophylla var.
Mel's cleaning out her greenhouse.......
Just beautiful, Sara & Mel!!
Ann
Wow nice plants.
Duh - I am really not thinking... for those interested, you could also D-mail Mel, her Dave's garden user ID is meltn, I am sure it might be easier to contact her directly and ask any questions you might have. Sorry for the lapse everyone, I guess my excuse would have to be that it is finally Friday, and what a long week it has been too. ;0
I would love to say thanks for the compliments, but the credit is all to Mel - yes, they are beautiful plants.
Thanks Mel.
Sara
Nice plants!
The macrophylla var. is absolutely wonderful!!
Boy that Mel sure grows sum beautiful babies!!!!
Yes, she does and I took Sara's advice - sent her a D-mail! :)
Thanks for your nice post Sara and thanks also for the kind comments about my plants. I had to send Sara adoption papers with her plants!
Never in a million years did I think all those little cuttings I rooted would grow to the size most have become! When I started moving plants in for the winter, I would walk around the greenhouse holding a plant for what seemed like hours as I tried to locate a spot for it. I have been spending all my time off working in the greenhouse and finally getting a little order to the madness. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.
Mel
That macrophylla is beautiful (another one on my wish list)! I am hoping all the cuttings I am rooting now don't all take over my house....lol.
:) Kim
I agree with Sara, shipping is a steal, and plants are beautiful. Thanks Mel I love them all.
Squeal ... I can't wait for mine to come ... I've made a pig out of myself!!!
Ann
Now, ya'll need to save some for the rest of us piggies!!! Anxiously awaiting Mel's list in Illinois....
Tami, LOL!! I was feeling a bit guilty when mine came, because DH was literally standing over my shoulder when I opened my box.......I have never, until Thursday, had to answer the question "and how much did you pay for that plant?" ugh....I swore I would go cold turkey, and not purchase any more for a while, now I can show him everything you bought. By the way, I am pretty sure Mel was supposed to send that subcalva to me, and just put it in your box by mistake! Just D-mail me, and I will let you know where to send it. HA! Just kidding! Beautiful plants Tami and Mel.
Sara
Hey Sara, LOL I had to move fast on that H. subcalva, Mel said she tried to send it to you and you didn't want it !! So what else could I do? My DH asked me once how much I paid for my hoya's, I just told him he didn't want to know. He hasn't asked again. He knows it is a sick, compulsive, hobby now and wouldn't dare deprive me, she types while repeating #11.
ut oh, I see Mel is being framed again!
:)
Green971,
I LOVE that bakset your Hoya is in. Where ever did you get it?!?
Dawn
Thanks Dawn,
Every August, Joanne Fabrics clearances out all of their "summer seasonal" items, and all of their planters and gardening merchandise is 70 - 80% off, so I go and restock my garage with planting items. I got it there, and bought the white chains at Ace Hardware. I originally bought 3 different sized ones, hoping to make something similar to one of those 3-tiered mesh baskets that you buy for kitchens, but it was way too heavy, long before I ever got plants in them, so they are separated and all around the house. I don't care for the maroon pot, but didn't have a light weight one on hand, so went with it.
Sara
It is really pretty.
Ohh Ann, you really picked some nice ones!! I am glad you were able to get some of Mel's wonderful plants! I am sure they will be happy in their new home. Congratulations.
Sara
Great haul Ann. Hey, what is that one on the far right with the long veined leaves?
Marcy, it's H. siariae (I hope I spelled that right). It's purdy!!
Ah yes.....I have that one too. I thought it looked familiar. There are a couple of others with leaves similar though.
:(.... looks like i missed out sigh .... every one of them are gorgeous!!!
Well, I got my order from Mel today - WOOOOWEEEEEEEE!! I got cuttings of h. sp Tanna Island and h. vanuatuensis, an h. ischnopsis plant, AND an absolutely HUGE h. incrassata plant!! Sadly, my camera is out of batteries, and we are in the middle of construction and I can't find the new ones! I'll get new batteries tomorrow and post a pic - you can't believe how big and beautiful the incrassata is!!! THANKS, Mel!!! Karen
Well, a big thanks to you Sara for putting this out there for all to see :-)
Awww shucks Ann, I was just excited to finally be able to share some pictures! I spend so much time reading the posts and admiring pictures of everyone else's plants......it is fun to post too.
Really, all the kudos go to Mel, not only for growing such awesome plants, but for being willing to share with the rest of us.
Sara
My new babies are coming next week..........Jumping up and down ! ! ! I can not wait......I have gotten Hoyas from Mel befor and know what wonderful plants she grows---Sandy
Oh, yea, Sandy - I can't wait to see what you got too! Mine are just stunning!! You better post a picture missy!
Ann
I've got some coming this week from Mel as well. I'm so excited!
:) Kim
Sandy and Kim, both your ships sailed from the post office at noon today! Old man winter is moving in fast. We are supposed to hit the 3o's toward the end of the week. The good thing about East Tennessee is that if you do not like the weather it will change. We are in the 80's today and should have some warm stretches ahead.
Sara, thanks so much for your wonderful post. Also, thanks to all of you for your lovely comments. What a great bunch of Hoya addicts we have at Daves.
Gotta grow for now. I still have a ton of plants to move in before we see the 30's. Time to pull out the Jimmy Buffet CD's and margarita mix and settle in for the long winter.
Mel
