picking the mg seeds

Clatskanie, OR(Zone 9b)

This year I planted some mg seeds and my wife and I enjoyed them so much we haveen watching you guys on this thread. I would like to get out there while the weather is good and pull the vines up and collect the seed pods. Killing frost is a week to two weeks away and winter rain has begun. I would like to ask you guys with experience if I really have anything to loose If I go ahead and pick the pods and get them to drying before I wind up doing this in the mud. Frank

nooo...im not ready for this rain :(

It depends on how mature the seedpods are...if they are looking brown, then they are most likely okay to dry inside, but the closer to green they are and the less developed they are >the more of a chance that the seeds will be too immature to be viable...if you have an area that gets good light and is somewhat protected from the killing frosts and cold...you can try removing some large sections of the vines to continue to ripen in a quasi-temperature and frost protected area...place the ends in water if you can...the vines will often continue to survive and allow continued maturation of the seedpods...

Good luck...

TTY,...
