deer and a yellow bird magnolia

Boulder Creek, CA(Zone 9a)

Will deer want to eat up my 4 ft yellow bird magnolia? I know deer will eat almost any plant if hungry enough, but what are my chances?

They will eat it. We had one planted out at a nursery that they really nailed. Worse, some buck rubbed the heck out of it.

Agreeing with Scott--they'll eat every flower bud for sure, then leaf buds......and just when you think its ok, the bucks will rub it. Other than that, it should be fine.

Spoken like someone who has had such horrible experiences with deer that he installed a deer-proof fence! (Does it come with machine-gun turrets?)

srkrause, if you have deer, nothing is safe. Nothing. Not even trees 6 inches in diameter.

No turrets, but our neighbor, lovingly referred to as "Crossbow Mike", is equally effective.

Maybe I should bring a big white flag or orange vest this weekend!
