Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo' - Green?

Southern, NJ(Zone 6b)

I found some of this at a local nursery. It's in Monrovia containers. The sale price is good compared to a few other nurseries.

However, two of the containers have green branches of decent sizes growing out. I came back here to read more before buying. I don't see any indication that this plant should change from green to its deep purplish color. I believe that the green branches were coming out of the same plant. To my uneducated eye it looked like the same leaf shape and arch to the branch as the other branches. It's one reason I came back here to read; it didn't seem right. Is the labeling correct if it's got green branches? How do I know the whole plant won't turn green?

Eau Claire, WI

I've been growing this one for about four years now and it'll throw out an occasional branch with reverted foliage. It doesn't seem to be much of a problem and is easily kept under control by pruning them out. I don't think I'd be overly concerned about it.

I have seen some reversion also. I would think once it is established you could prune those out, they grow fast.

Rock Island, IL(Zone 5b)

You'll know it will turn purple (probably even these green branches) if you give it a lot of sun. Could be that the green foliage wasn't getting enough light in whatever form of the lack thereof.

(These plants are propagated from cuttings so the green seems like it was a branch or two hidden amongst dense foliage that didn't get proper sunlight and when they popped up, that too me seems the reason as to why.) Also, any 'Diablo' will turn green (the entire plant) if not given sufficient sun.
