When is the best time to plant lilies? I love the Casa Blanca and others. I am in Northern California. Any great sources>
Thanks

Hi dun1kirk ~ now is the perfect time to shop lily bulbs for Fall planting. Spring is another option.
Here are some excellent growers:

The Lily Nook is in Canada and, having a short growing season, has a relatively early cut-off for ordering but will be available again in the Spring.
Other places I have been happy with are
The Bulb Crate

Others might snarl, but I have had good luck with Brecks Bulbs too. They have a sale going now too, buy $25 get $25 free. They carry Casablanca and some others, if you are just a beginner and don't want to spend a ton of $.

Moby has given wonderful links to more prized growers. Another one to add to that list is Buggy Crazy.

Most places usually send at prime planting time for your area.
Good Luck.
I was saving Buggycrazy for after the start of 'lily lust'..... ;)
Moby and Mags, you enablers! LOL
Whaaattt?? *batting eyelashes* Just trying to help a new lily lover......
Who moi? Enabler??? Who can pass up such great deals? It isn't fair not to share :0)
Sorry...didn't mean to let Buggy "out of the bag"....
Dun1kirk, listen to these Ladies, they know their stuff. :) You should also wander over to Mainiac's thread about visiting her garden. She has some wonderful lilies to look at. :)
Here's a link to the thread:

The folks in this forum know how to grow lilies. I've learned a lot from them just by listening and watching. :)

All the lilies I bought and traded for over the summer are starting to arrive at my house. menopause. How many do I have coming? My beds are going to look like swiss cheese!
Is there a good source in Europe with an extensive range?
I only know of floriana.ws and I have bought everything they have on offer...and now I want MORE!!! :)
Moby--you enabler! I just went on to Buggycrazy's website & blew the rest of my budget:
FIRESTAR
AWESOME, AURELIAN LILY
BLACK BEAUTY
HENRY'S SURPRISE
Lilium speciosum rubrum, RUBRUM LILY
LAVENDER FROST, AURELIAN LILY
Leslie Woodriff,
GODZILLA
Wanda, what a crop you have chosen! Isn't that site just fabulous (or should I say too fabulous, from a budget perspective)
I am also trying to find out if Buggy Crazy can send the bulbs to Italy...I hope it's possible...She is very helpful and very prompt in her responses.
Valley K
http://www.plantlilies.com ships her lilies to
EU. She will stop digging soon so better go have a look soon.

Oh,viqarqadir, you lucky gardener you! What a beautiful place you live in. My sis lived in Italy, first Frascati, then Milano , for 11 years. She absolutely loved it. Lucky you. Oh and the plant options you have!
Lisa is the most prompt responder to e-mail that I know of....I can't remember if she does shipping outside the US or not. You'll be finding out soon.....
hey thanks
I am emailing them to check if they ship to Italy. It's not clear from their shipping policy if they do. Thanks for the enabling...and please keep it coming :)
The Lily Nook has an extensive collection to choose from and does do overseas shipping. I see the cut off date is Oct.1
http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/CatalogStart.htm
That's only for Canadians ~ shipping for everyone else cut off Sept. 24. :(
Rats! Thanks for the correction, Moby.
Surely ~ found that out the hard way last year. Those Canadian growers have such a short growing season; only 110 days, I think.
I noticed that they don't offer orientals, in the fall, just spring. Imagine 110 days? Makes me feel like I am lucky in zone 5, when I envy those in 6 & 7.....
I agree ~ I couldn't take living any farther North than MN; short summers and looong winters.
The season is just too short for northern growers' late blooming orientals to bloom, mature and harvest in time to ship. Oh well, it's not like they can't be had, we just don't want to wait til spring to get our grubby little paws on them. :)
At least lilies grow there. Talk about a long winter's nap........
I need winter to rest and re-group. besides, my house gets pretty dirty after neglecting it since April... :)
