Does anyone know what the species is of this mantis? It looks somewhat like a photo I saw of an African mantis, but I'm not sure what it would be doing in Nebraska.
CLOSED: Praying Mantis
Whoa! I don't know what species it is, but it certainly is neat looking!
The last couple years, I have been getting a lot of these near white ones.
Susan
wow, that is cool looking!
why don't you email http://www.exotic-pets.co.uk/contact.php and ask if they recognize it? they are mantis breeders.
I 'think' it's a Carolina Mantis....female. They have the fatter abdomens and their wings do not extend beyond it. They have a wide range of color shadings too. They are quite common here in west KY.
Melody, I think you have right ID. It sure looks like this photo of a Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina) female. I am going to mark this solved. Thanks!
