Lone azalea blooming in fall

Newport News, VA

Shrub experts, please help! This little guy may be confused. Out of about 10 azaleas I have, only this one is beginning to bloom. Will it still have anything left for spring? What made it decide to bloom now?

Some azaleas will do that, I had one at my old house that every year would bloom a bit in the fall and then a big flush in the spring. It did that every year for me though so if this is the first time yours has done it I don't know if I have an explanation for why it hasn't done it before.

Do you know what variety it is?
The 'Encore' series were bred & selected for repeat bloom
I've got a 'Girard's Rose', planted in full bloom this spring, that's re-blooming again now. Don't know if it'll have any next spring.

I have Rhodies that do that a little bit some years and no the ones that open don't /can't bloom...in spring.....but usually plenty of buds for next year.

I caught this single little bloom on one of my azaleas today.

I don't know what variety it is - I've only lived here a year, and when we came in June last year I had to prune all the azaleas, even though it was late. They were all a tall, leggy, neglected mess! Still, they bloomed this past spring with a fair number of flowers. Today I found a second one with a lone bloom, same red color as the first. Can't say I mind this, now that I know it's somewhat normal.
Thanks for all the info,
Liz
