Charity case

Think of me with a sign around my neck that says will work for seed. Just kidding. About all I've got to trade is oak acorns this year because I wasn't out there doing much gathering from the property. I would have posted this request over in the Plant Trading Forum but I doubt seriously if I'd have any luck over there.

I'd like- Cornus alternifolia and Ostrya virginiana seeds and if at all possible I'd like them from the Midwest or at least a zone 4, 5, or 6 from east of the rockies. I'd also like to try my hand killing some more Oxydendrum arboreum if anyone has any seed of that out there. I tried to germinate that three different ways and had absolutely no success. My goal is to get some good understory woodies going before the new neighborhood across the street goes up with their depressing landscape packages. If anyone else has any suggestions for understory trees or shrubs, I'm open. I am going to bring back three Dirca palustris for myself as well as three a piece for a few friends early next summer. So far, that's about all I've got planned.

I can get central Illinois Ostrya for you if you can't find any from someone further north. Let me know.

Maybe I'll toss a few Albizia seeds into the mix . . .

Equilerium,

I haven't really started my seed hunting expeditions yet, but will keep your needs in mind when I do.

I have got a little 6" Cornus alternifolia seedling growing in my front garden bed. You can have it if you want it. I can dig it up when it goes dormant. I've also got a five footer growing behind my "Mohawk" viburnum. I could do my best to get what I can of it out from behind there and send you that too, but shipping might not be cheap and I'm not sure what its chances will be after such trauma.

Suggestions? How about the Wahoo, just cuz I like to say "Wahoo."

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I might be able to come up with some Wahoo seeds; and, yes, it is fun to say "Wahoo." Unfortunately, the seeds take at least two years to germinate.

Come to think of it SB, Euonymus atropurpurea will tolerate part shade.

Guy, I'll take your Ostrya seed. The Albizia seed you can stick up your nostrils for me.

Scott, I'll take both. I don't care what shipping costs. Please do toss a few wahoo seeds in but not a lot. I'd only like 2 or 3 more of those plants here and then I'll let Ma Nature take over.

Thanks so much. The Hop Hornbeam was the one I really wanted to get my hands on.

Might be a bit late for C. alternifolia here--mine are all stripped of berries already. I'll check the wild ones nearby and see if they have any left.

My neighbors are stripped and the few that I have planted here are too young to fruit.

Thanks if you find anything Kevin.
