I just dug up several Redbud sapplings that were growing in a friends flower beds and for once, I replanted them as soon as I got home. Some were quite large, maybe 4-5 feet. I magine the age of these runs from 6 months to 3 years ............ they come up all over the place from seed in this garden, where there is one mature tree and a couple younger one's that also grew from seed. We're a zone 5 area.
My friend isn't around to ask, so I thought someone here may know.
These all have leaves starting right down at ground level. Do I need to keep trimming these as they grow to get them to be tree form? If so, when should I start doing this.
I've read that they grow quickly until they reach 12 feet, but what does "quickly" mean?
If anyone has experience growing and transplanting this tree when they come up from seed in unwanted areas, I'd like any tips you can give me.
I'm not very knowledgable about trees, but I think these are Eastern Redbuds ..... they have a heart shaped leaf, and the blooms look purple to my eye. Just Beautiful!
