Look at my Hisako

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

When I first noticed this plant on the Gesneriad Referecne Web sight I sreached and bought it for it's foliage ! I still love it for it's foliage ! But have sense then ( Only had it a year ) have enjoyed numerous times of blooms stalks. I love it when the come up and go all around the plant like in one of my pictures. It was a fabulous sight !

I know what you mean. The blossoms are the icing on the cake so to speak. Very striking plant.

I forgot to show you guys an update of Hisako. It bloomed once again and I had 3 beautiful flowers. I have never seen a bloom stalk so I probably would not even know what one is but I'll be on the lookout for one. These photos did not turn out as well as the other ones did because I had some settings on my camera wrong but at least I did get photos of them. Here is a photo of the whole plant.

Oh my, I don't know what this plant is, but it's beautiful. I do grow a few mini a/v's and am wondering about this beauty.

The problem that I have with a/v's is that I only have natural light and seems they don't bloom very well without growlights. Does this beauty that I see in all the pics grow well and flower good without growllights if it was in a south facing sunny window? I really am quite interested in this plant, can you all give me juicy details about it?

Thanks
Maureen

Hi Maureen
Chriita sinensis 'Hisako' is a Chirita and my favorite ! I first bought it for the foliage but the flowers are the icing on the cake. With or without it's the greatest plant to grow. Easy , Progates fast and easy, grows well in natural light or under lights.
I grow mine in natural light. You can always give you plants a little extra light under a lamp for a few hours each day to suplement your natural window light.

I sent my last plant away last week but did put more leaves down but will be awhile before I have more plants to share. Maybe someone in the forum here has a baby or leaf to share !

Violet - thank you for sharing this info. Maybe I can ask on the trade forum if someone has a baby to share with me, I have perennials I can offer them in trade.

Thank you for this info,
Maureen

Maureen you could but best bet is to post here on this forum if you have a wish of a special plant ! People here are very giving. Even if someone might not have one now by Spring I know I and others will ! I gave several of them away on this forum and Jesse bought her's from Bluebirds I did too and I think we both have leaves down . !

I've only got a split second on here, but I may have a Chirita 'Silver Surfer' baby I could trade to you, Maureen. I'll have to look. I'll get back on here in a little bit and let you know.

Oh this would be great Amy ! And Maureen I bet someone has a Chriita sinensis 'Hisako' for you or a leaf ! We tried to take a couple suckers off last week and my hubby's bigs hands well we have leaves down !
I am hoping the big baby plant I sent out last week makes it to their new home ! But I'm sure you'll get one !

Well, I looked at it, and it's a nice baby, but still pretty small. How big do the suckers need to be to remove them from the mom plant?

Well I guess as long as they have a crown of 4 leaves ? About the same as an Av ? When it is easy for you to handle. I just stick mine in the soil-less mix and they root fast. Some people bag them for a couple weeks. We tried a few last week and did not do well :(( Have one down with a small leaf, and two tiny ones. And then some leaves down. I hope they progate fast like my others did ! Then I'll have more to share !
